BLEAH!
A handcuffed protester strikes a rude pose after cops arrested a bunch of anti-World Economic Forum demonstrators in the East Village yesterday.
February 4, 2002 -- THE cops in riot gear rushed forward with such intensity, a dozen of us protesters crashed into the table of a panic-stricken merchant selling oil paintings.

"My friend Byron already told you he's not 'with' them. Get yourself another screen name; I'm afraid you're not fit to use mine."
Knowing the difference between dissent and destruction is knowing America.
Let's be honest : some (thankfully, few) of our fellow Freepers are 'conservatives', in the way that Henry Ford's anti-UAW goons were 'conservatives.' This piece is absolute rubbish, written to inflame prejudice, by some idiot all excited about his big undercover operation. If the protesters have got 'legitimate gripes', then let's hear 'em. Sadly, you can expect more like this from the Post, whose new editor, Col Allen, is an Australian disgrace to journalism.
I can smell that mesquite flavoured venison right now, amigo.....
If you want to debate then tell me why I shouldn't protest at this reporter's refusal to cover the demonstrators' motivations and his cheering at their gassing and arrests.
(Henceforth) cordially, Byron.
Maybe you can ask Byron what he supports before you lump him in with Palestinians and anarchists. There are plenty of conservatives on this website who are against global free trade (although I myself am a free-trader).
FReepers should be concerned about the growing globalization movement, because globalization, be necessity, reduces US soveriegnty. Globalists seek to transfer power from elected national governments to unelected international organizations. This should get all of FReeperdom up in arms, but it does not, because we are busy denouncing the motly collection of environmentalists, anarchists, and Communists who are marching in the streets. The protesters also wish to eliminate US soveriegnty, and reduce us all to vassals. They just want us to be subjected by them. They truly deserve our contempt.
But we should not believe for a minute that the enemy-of-our-enemy is our friend. The WEF deserves to be closely examined and criticized. It's membership, methods, and goals should all come under close scrutiny. But instead 100% of the coverage is about a bunch of loser out-of-towners who get into scuffles with the police.
It happens with such regularity, one could be forgiven thinking that it is all by design.... (more X-file music here...)
When its you and the man in uniform you aint got no rights.
As a veteran of many a crowd control operation (in uniform ) I know that to be true.
Cheers Tony
As a veteran of, media fuelled, crowd control operations (I was in a peaceful crowd at the start) I know that to be true.
LOL - let's have three cheers for the KKK, who believe that affirmative action and high taxes are wrong!!!
Should those "legitimate gripes" be considered when dealing with the Klan?
Irrelevant, M. And I'm always interested to hear about the motivations and arguments of the other side.
But hey, if you'd rather stick with your fantasy that I'm 'siding' with them, in the absence of any evidence and my specific denial of that, then I think it goes to show what a lightweight you really are.
Exactly. Thank you.
We could be discussing how the globalists came to exert such control over our lives, and whether that's a good thing; or we could be sidetracked into pointless media-led sprays against these protesters.
Gee, what do you think Post owner Rupert Murdoch would prefer, Gridlock?
Yep.
Always offer the carrot, and the stick (the Magsaysay Doctrine.)
