BLEAH!

A handcuffed protester strikes a rude pose after cops arrested a bunch of anti-World Economic Forum demonstrators in the East Village yesterday.

February 4, 2002 -- THE cops in riot gear rushed forward with such intensity, a dozen of us protesters crashed into the table of a panic-stricken merchant selling oil paintings.

..these idiot loser anarchists deserve every lungful of pepper spray they get. And so do you, if you're with them...

"My friend Byron already told you he's not 'with' them. Get yourself another screen name; I'm afraid you're not fit to use mine."

Actually Bryon the Assie has zip, zero, nada say in the matter, and, in the American vernacular: SIDEWAYS.

A little perspective is in order here. Doug Montero never met a silly cause he couldn't embrace, from sending Elian home to halting the Vieques bombing. You can always count on Montero to be the Post's token Geraldo clone.

Knowing the difference between dissent and destruction is knowing America.

Thanks for your support.

Let's be honest : some (thankfully, few) of our fellow Freepers are 'conservatives', in the way that Henry Ford's anti-UAW goons were 'conservatives.' This piece is absolute rubbish, written to inflame prejudice, by some idiot all excited about his big undercover operation. If the protesters have got 'legitimate gripes', then let's hear 'em. Sadly, you can expect more like this from the Post, whose new editor, Col Allen, is an Australian disgrace to journalism.

Hey, you want to insult, you'll get insults back.

If you want to debate then tell me why I shouldn't protest at this reporter's refusal to cover the demonstrators' motivations and his cheering at their gassing and arrests.

(Henceforth) cordially, Byron.

Your willingness to side with these particular demonstrators is indefensible. See: Seattle.

Have you ever--ever--participated in a FreeRepublic protest at a major event? Apparently you haven't ever been on the front lines, because if you had, you'd know that dozens of conflicting groups show up to these things, each with its own agenda. There is no way that you can shove all these protesters into the same ideological pigeonhole.

Maybe you can ask Byron what he supports before you lump him in with Palestinians and anarchists. There are plenty of conservatives on this website who are against global free trade (although I myself am a free-trader).

If the protesters did not show up for these WEF events, the WEF would hire a rent-a-mob to make sure the story was always about what happens outside the building, instead of what happens inside the building. In fact, maybe they have been doing so for years (insert X-file music here...)

FReepers should be concerned about the growing globalization movement, because globalization, be necessity, reduces US soveriegnty. Globalists seek to transfer power from elected national governments to unelected international organizations. This should get all of FReeperdom up in arms, but it does not, because we are busy denouncing the motly collection of environmentalists, anarchists, and Communists who are marching in the streets. The protesters also wish to eliminate US soveriegnty, and reduce us all to vassals. They just want us to be subjected by them. They truly deserve our contempt.

But we should not believe for a minute that the enemy-of-our-enemy is our friend. The WEF deserves to be closely examined and criticized. It's membership, methods, and goals should all come under close scrutiny. But instead 100% of the coverage is about a bunch of loser out-of-towners who get into scuffles with the police.

It happens with such regularity, one could be forgiven thinking that it is all by design.... (more X-file music here...)

re : Shaken by the violation of my rights, I still smiled.

When its you and the man in uniform you aint got no rights.

As a veteran of many a crowd control operation (in uniform ) I know that to be true.

Cheers Tony

As a veteran of, media fuelled, crowd control operations (I was in a peaceful crowd at the start) I know that to be true.

...and did you ever consider covering those 'legitimate gripes', Mr. Reporter?

LOL - let's have three cheers for the KKK, who believe that affirmative action and high taxes are wrong!!!

Should those "legitimate gripes" be considered when dealing with the Klan?

Irrelevant, M. And I'm always interested to hear about the motivations and arguments of the other side.

But hey, if you'd rather stick with your fantasy that I'm 'siding' with them, in the absence of any evidence and my specific denial of that, then I think it goes to show what a lightweight you really are.

Exactly. Thank you.

We could be discussing how the globalists came to exert such control over our lives, and whether that's a good thing; or we could be sidetracked into pointless media-led sprays against these protesters.

Gee, what do you think Post owner Rupert Murdoch would prefer, Gridlock?

Yep.
