It is NOT the responsibility of the military to go and rescue Americans who ignore SD warnings and travel advisories.

I agree. The press hyped and distorted the conditions of the prisoners at Gitmo. Now one of their own reaps what they've sown.

Fate of kidnapped reporter unclear
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/fr/620173/posts

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan - A caller purporting to represent the kidnappers of reporter Daniel Pearl telephoned the U.S. Consulate in Karachi on Friday and demanded $2 million and the release of the former Taliban ambassador to Pakistan, senior police officials said.

However, CNN said it received an e-mail from those claiming to hold the Wall Street Journal correspondent, saying he had been killed. CNN spokeswoman Christa Robinson said "We did receive an e-mail reporting that Daniel Pearl was killed."

"Unfortunately, the kidnappers don't want to deal with the government. They want cash from the parents or the church - I think he said $ 1 million.

It's hard to have one-sided negotiations."

And with all the talk about going into rescue Mr. Pearl your argument is at best moot, at worst laughable. I am not talking about the TV coverage I am talking about action or lack-there-of.

Thanks East Bay. You described the Twilight Zone episode well. And I liked your comments afterwards. But my husband would be upset if I reached down and found a pair.

He knew the dangers, but he did his job in spite of the dangers. That's called bravery by most people unless he happened to work for a liberal media outlet, obviously. A gas line worker is killed in Nigeria? He was working for Exxon to make sure we got our oil, what a brave man. A Missionary is killed in Cambodia while working in a Khmer Rouge held area? How brave of him to spread the gospel in such a dangerous area. A reporter for the New York Times gets kidnapped pursuing a story in Karachi? How irresponsible, how stupid, he ignored all warnings. No, I think Dan Pearl knew better than most how dangerous it was, I think he knew the danger but did his job regardless. A brave man with great internal fortitude, regardless of how I view his politics. Much more courageous than the dogs we are fighting against.

We should have told them that unless they released this journalist, we would kill all the prisoners in Cuba. That would have saved us alot of future problems.

he works for the wsj, NOT the CIA. ignoring SD warnings in the name of some patriotic heroism doesnt work. if the SD or anyone else wanted his help, they probably would have asked. the ends dont justify the means.

& drop a daisy cutter on the doggone terrorist base, Karachi.

Yes, we caught your earlier reference to your allegation that I'm a terrorist. You seem to do this on a daily basis.

It's not funny. It's not accurate. It is annoying.

You are sick.

Even better, we should have sent back the one guy they wanted, and strapped a bomb to him...the method they love so much.

"What parts of these warning did Mr.Pearl feel didn't apply to himself?"

What if his work for the WSJ was merely his day job?

"I think she was just trying to be as composed as possible and not crack up on international TV"

Everyone reacts differently to these kind of situations. You might be right or it could be she is still in shock. Unusual situations like this often leave people with a since of unreality. Its difficult to judge anyones reaction by what might be percieved as the typical reaction, because there really is no typical reaction.
