Shoe bomber judge's hubby nabbed in porno raid

A high-rolling Hub lawyer whose jurist wife is presiding over the case against accused shoe bomber Richard Reid was among seven men busted for fondling each other in a seedy Rhode Island porno theater this week, police and sources said.

Attorney Alan M. Reisch, a partner at the prestigious Goulston and Storrs law firm, was one of seven men busted in Amazing Express Video in Johnston, R.I., Wednesday night. Reisch, the husband of U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Judith Dein, and the other six men all had their pants down and were engaged in various sex acts when cops burst into the darkened theater.

``What they were doing was a public health hazard,'' Johnston, R.I., police Chief Richard Tamburini said. ``It's bizarre.'' The shop, which is listed on one Web site as a popular ``cruising'' spot for gay men, was known to police as a haven for illicit sex, Tamburini said.

``We knew it was a breeding ground for this type of activity but we never thought it went on on that level,'' Tamburini said. ``You expect maybe one-on-one but not seven guys.''

Among those arrested with Reisch was 57-year-old Edward Sherman of North Attleboro and Christopher Scott, a 30-year-old Cumberland, R.I., high school teacher. All were charged with disorderly conduct but Reisch and three others were additionally charged with loitering for prostitution for allegedly soliciting others to join the all-male orgy.

According to one longtime friend, Reisch, 48, has been married to Dein for 20 years.

Porno theaters?! You mean there still are such places? [laughs] I remember about a million years ago when the movie "Deep Throat" was getting so much media attention I went to a "porno theater" on the south side of Chicago to see the film. (I didn't see any Pee-Wee Herman types in the theater itself, but I sure didn't use the men's room...) But it's hard to believe that such places can still make money, these video & internet days...

"This kind of activity" must be -- I'd imagine -- the main reason people would even go to a public theater, rather than just renting the video & going home or to a motel that features "4-hour 'naps'." It must be a social thing. A kind of community.

Then people must choose. Then people will have to actually do something about it, confront it, stand up and act. We fail to act, the enemy gains.

What do we choose? Choose to use the force of government to stop people from doing what they would choose to do privately? If the only arguments we can offer for not doing something is that it will land you in jail then we dont have much of an argument. A certain percentage of the population wants to engage in perversions. This will always be true. But we should not take the easy road and use government to stop this behavior. Government so empowered starts going after cigarettes, then candy, then ice cream. Once the government is in charge of morality we all had better fear. Because well come under its gun soon enough. And its definition of morality is something truly frithening.

Actually, I have gone into a porn shop by accident.

Back in '95, before I was on the internet, I had heard of an article in some publication about a clinton scandle (ya just knew he would figure into this).

Hubby and I were going to lunch and there was this place called 24 HR News. I told him to pull over and I ran in. And, yes, all the men scattered.

Ever hear of a group called the Log Cabin Republicans? What do you suppose the "Log" part refers to? Homosexuality crosses every level of society. Priests, truckers, bikers, lawyers, congresscritters, etc.

I don't like it but the point is that if we propose to keep our kids safe on the straight and narrow we must guard them in all their activities and associations.

Judith Dein is a MAGISTRATE JUDGE. This is NOT a presidential appointment, confirmed by the Senate. It is a 14-yr position, chosen by the judges of the US District Court for Massachusetts (currently 13 of them, appointed between 1972 and 1995.)

The Magistate Judge can only do subsidiary matters, like taking a plea, making recommendations, etc., unless both sides consent.

I am virtually certain that Reid will be tried before a DISTRICT JUDGE (appointed by the President, confirmed by the Senate, under ARTICLE III of the Constitution), who will be someone else. So, whatever else this whole mess is about, targeting Dein wouldn't seem to be it!

Exactly. And I will guarantee that a district court judge will preside over Reid's trial, which will be a jury trial, which (unless the parties agree otherwise) can only be presided over by an Article III judge.

I agree.Reid is a British Jamaican,I believe.Those families traditionaly dont have the money or influence to threaten a Federal Judge.Just my opinion.
