Shoe bomber judge's hubby nabbed in porno raid

A high-rolling Hub lawyer whose jurist wife is presiding over the case against accused shoe bomber Richard Reid was among seven men busted for fondling each other in a seedy Rhode Island porno theater this week, police and sources said.

Attorney Alan M. Reisch, a partner at the prestigious Goulston and Storrs law firm, was one of seven men busted in Amazing Express Video in Johnston, R.I., Wednesday night. Reisch, the husband of U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Judith Dein, and the other six men all had their pants down and were engaged in various sex acts when cops burst into the darkened theater.

``What they were doing was a public health hazard,'' Johnston, R.I., police Chief Richard Tamburini said. ``It's bizarre.'' The shop, which is listed on one Web site as a popular ``cruising'' spot for gay men, was known to police as a haven for illicit sex, Tamburini said.

``We knew it was a breeding ground for this type of activity but we never thought it went on on that level,'' Tamburini said. ``You expect maybe one-on-one but not seven guys.''

Among those arrested with Reisch was 57-year-old Edward Sherman of North Attleboro and Christopher Scott, a 30-year-old Cumberland, R.I., high school teacher. All were charged with disorderly conduct but Reisch and three others were additionally charged with loitering for prostitution for allegedly soliciting others to join the all-male orgy.

According to one longtime friend, Reisch, 48, has been married to Dein for 20 years.

I just checked on Judge "Judy" G Dein: appointed in April, 2000.

I'm sure she was properly vetted before being sent up. I'm going out on a limb here but I'll bet her congresscritter is Bwahney Frank.

As someone pointed out after my answer to you, the 30 year old taught in Rhode Island.

I'm appalled by this behavior, but not everyone lives by standards that don't appall me. Still, whatever happened to "go away to play..." for adults in the local public eye?

From the Providence Journal (a little more info):

JOHNSTON -- Seven men have been summonsed to appear in District Court on charges stemming from allegedly illegal sexual activities at Amazing Express, an adult video store and theater at 1530 Hartford Ave.

The seven were taken into custody Wednesday night, following an investigation by four undercover police officers, Chief Richard Tamburini said yesterday. He said the police acted after receiving information this week of sexual activity there.

The four officers went to the store, which was open for business, about 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday and went into the movie theater where an adult video was showing. Patrons pay $5 to watch adult videos in the theater. There the police said they observed the seven men exposing themselves, and fondling each other and themselves. Tamburini said that activity, done in a public place, constitutes disorderly conduct.

In addition, he said, four of the men were trying to entice others in the theater to join them. They were charged with loitering for indecent purposes.

When the police took the men into custody the store closed for the night, the chief said. The men were released Wednesday night, after being summonsed.

Besides selling adult videos, the store, which at one time was called the Johnston Cinema and showed X-rated feature films, and later was called Airborne for Men, has a small theater with about 50 seats, plus cases of videos and other sex oriented objects that are for sale. It also has small booths, where patrons can rent and watch the videos in private.

Joseph T. McGrath, 68, of 43 Gaspee Point Drive, Warwick; Paul R. Lichtenberger, 49, of 35 Peck Hill Rd., Scituate; Alan M. Reisch, 48, of Arlington, Mass., and Stuart Denton, 55, of Moosup, Conn., were summonsed on charges of disorderly conduct and loitering for indecent purposes. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Greg Renshaw, 41, of Woodstock, Conn.; Edward V. Sherman, 57, of 31 S. Main St., North Attleboro, Mass.; and Christopher Scott, 30, of 1 Bill St., Cumberland, were summonsed for disorderly conduct.

They are all scheduled to appear in District Court, in Providence, on Jan. 23 on the charges.

Tamburini said he was struck by the varied backgrounds of the people involved. He said background checks run by the department when the men were taken into custody showed that Scott is a Cumberland High School mathematics teacher and Reisch is a lawyer. He said McGrath is retired, Lichtenberger is unemployed, Renshaw is an engineer and Denton is a janitor. Tamburini said Sherman is a registered sex offender in Massachusetts.

Word of the police action in the establishment swept through town yesterday. The store has long been one of the places that most town officials wish would just go away. With its long history, the place has been viewed by present and past town officials as one of the lynchpins of the local adult entertainment industry. Yesterday, television crews from Providence and Boston converged on the store, which is in a nondescript cinder block building with peeling blue paint. As news crews watched, a steady stream of patrons went into the store.

Town leaders were swift to react to news of the raid.

The establishment has a business operating license and a Sunday sales license, both issued by the town. Town Council President Robert Russo said that once the council gets the report from the police, he expects the board will schedule a meeting to determine whether to hold a hearing to decide on the status of the licenses.

Mayor William R. Macera praised the police for their work.

"It's very clear the council and the people do not want this activity in the town," he said. "I support them 100 percent. Let those people do that in their own bedrooms."

Macera also noted that the video-rental store is across the street from War Memorial Park, the town's primary youth recreation area.

Tamburini said this is the first time the police have issued any summonses for activity at the store. He said the investigation is continuing and it has not been determined if more charges will be brought.

John Lizotta, the manager, yesterday said he had no comment. "I'm sure there will be somebody to represent the store," he said.

According to information on file in the Town Hall, the applicant for the sales and business licenses was Dennis Nichols, of 1060 Park Ave., Cranston. He could not be reached for comment.

Some people need the DNC to have a pivotal role, that would make politics easy for them to grasp ("fire bad/food good").

Unbelievably humiliating for the judge, no?

That's my point, ROL. It's the warning shot. It doesn't have to be the DNC, but they come to mind first because this is such a Clintonesque tactic. It could be the media, since they are so overstuffed with Clinton operatives. But somebody's sending this judge a warning.

Well... when the concepts of sin, and shame and self-control no longer exist, why should anybody "go away" to participate in something that has become acceptable?

The new morality is unconditional "tolerance"- once that has become part of the mainstream, there are no more lines to be drawn.

There is a place like this across the highway from our busiiness, but it's not gay oriented (this is redneck country!). They called our business to do some heating and air work and my husband went and was telling me all he saw. I told him he was not allowed to do any bartering and if I saw many follow up visits I would be suspicious.

I understand this kind of activity is VERY common through out porno theaters all over the country. A Private Investigator I work for from time to time says most of the guys who frequent these places live this "secret porno perversion life", while the rest of the world sees their normal side. Business suited, well heeled types frequent these places and their wives have NO CLUE.

A woman can walk into one of these places and the guys scatter like scared mice. Sounds like fun, huh girls?

Sometimes a man acting like a queer adolescent is just..................................a man acting like a queer adolescent.

I'd have to think long and hard about who would want to frighten off a judge who is trying the case of some foreign, nutcase, wannabe-terrorist in the US in 2002. Bin Laden didn't set up the judge's hubby, so........................hmmmm...................
