MIAMI (AP) -- Talk show host Rosie O'Donnell hosted a $250 per person fund-raiser Sunday for Janet Reno, the former U.S. attorney general and a Democratic candidate for governor.

``When I heard that she was running I called up her office and told her I would do any and everything I can,'' O'Donnell said.

O'Donnell was hoping to raise $50,000 for Reno, one of five Democrats attempting to unseat Gov. Jeb Bush.

Asked about her chances of defeating Bush, Reno said bluntly: ``I'm going to win.''

Both Reno and O'Donnell, a foster parent, said they shared a commitment to helping children.

``It's a big problem in the state of Florida. There are over 3,000 children today available for adoption, free for adoption in the state, in foster custody,'' O'Donnell said. ``Chances are they will age out of the system, they will go right into welfare and into prison, so we need to do better for this generation of kids.''

The comedian owns a home on Miami Beach's Star Island, a gated community of mansions along Biscayne Bay. The closed event was held at a private home.

Analysts said the appearance with O'Donnell could pose problems for Reno when she attempts to court voters in areas heavily composed of gun owners, sportsmen and military personnel.

``Anything that connects Reno to gun control means Democrats lose big in north Florida,'' said Susan MacManus, a political scientist at the University of South Florida in Tampa.

Watch out Florida, here comes Rosie and Reno, better hide your guns!

Rosie better tip off her personal security guard before all of the guns are confiscated.

The comedian owns a home on Miami Beach's Star Island, a gated community of mansions along Biscayne Bay. Good to see that she trusts that the criminals are going to turn their guns in when public ownership is restricted. < /sarcasm >

O'Donnell was hoping to raise $50,000 for Reno...

Of course, we'll never know how many really showed up.

The Dims in Florida must be having nightmares about Janet Reno topping off their ticket. Janet, of course, has Parkinson's disease, and probably is one of the 10% or so of patients with Parkinson's who've become demented. That is not an excuse for Reno's "Death Squads"; merely an observation.

I thought Reno's health problems were made public when she left office. Chaney's health was brought up as a political issue when he ran for VP, will Reno be able to meet the duties of her office?

Good point on the "dress up" issue. I had forgotten that and assumed that Reno had called in the Rangers to intimidate the Cuban-American community.

I guess my feeling is that if we have government agents pointing automatic weapons at anyone, its better that they are pointing them at bin Laden and the terrorists, rather than at a small child to make political hay.

Nah, Rosie's not worried, gun laws only affect the little people, the great unwashed, trailer trash, etc. Not people who live in exclusive, gated communities on islands, with their own police force and private bodyguards protecting them 24/7. Rosie has no fear of crime, she only fears the "little people".

Rosie was the same one speaking on behalf of Andrea Yates(the one who drowned her 5 children). Now she's endorsing Reno.

"...A Florida FReeper "Heads-Up", let's get ready, Let's Roll, Bump to the Top! ..."

We were born ready, Dave, and if I can find my way back from St. Pete tomorrow night without getting busted for weapons violations, again, you KNOW I'll be on the bus with y'all!

We'll have to have an organizational meeting-January-fest to kick-off the festivities.

Remember, we're also supporting our own choice for Governor, so we'll be doing some rah-rah work too.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, PALLY!!......FRegards

She also appears to fear foster children, believing that overwhelmingly they will turn to a life of crime and welfare living.

Has she come out in favor of gay foster parents? Does she think that will turn things around for foster children?

The rules for adoption are so stringent as to be prohibitive. I know a couple who, after trying to jump through hoops for over two years adopted a child (eventualy two) from overseas.

BTW Rosie makes me sick.

I would LOVE to adopt a brother and sister under 10,but as a single white hetrosexual male who isn't a celeberty,it ain't gonna happen.

I think she adopted one troubled child and it was AFTER she had adopted 3 healthy newborns.

Yeah, she did. I THINK it was a little girl she adopted, and she turned her back in for being defective.

"O'Donnell was hoping to raise $50,000 for Reno..."

"Of course, we'll never know how many really showed up."

Doesn't the fact that it was advertised as a "$250-per-person" fundraiser tell you anything?

It should tell you that the grandees of Florida's Left see Jackboot Janet as a real lost cause!

Reno's girlfriend - another issue to hit every local talk show in Florida with!
