Today my local newspaper had a nasty response to a LCMS pastor's claim that Christians and Muslims do not believe in the same god. The author goes on to say "This is contrary to all the sources I've seen, which explain that Jews, Christians and Muslims do indeed worship the same god, in what is termed the Abrahamic tradition. Perhaps he is confused my the term "Allah" (Arabic for "the lord"), not understanding that it is a different name for God, not the name of a different god." The letter closes with a personal attack on the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.
Can anyone help me understand what the philosophical differences between the three religions and provide me with information to refute the letter if untrue?
Given the nasty nature of the letter and the attack on the Church I feel strongly compelled to at least investigate whether a response is warranted.
Muslims and Jews reject God the Son. Therefore the God's are not technically the same.
Revelation 9:11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
Abaddon = "destruction"
Apollyon = "Destroyer"
Islam, I believe, considers Jesus Christ to have been only a prophet, and Jews, of course, do not recognize Him as the Messiah. In Christianity, Christ is God.
Ergo. the god slam cannot possibly be the same as the Christian God because they (Muslims) do not recognize Christ as God.
Ergo. the god of Islam cannot possibly be the same as the Christian God because they (Muslims) do not recognize Christ as God.
Sorry ;bout the lousy typing..
Muslims deny the Trinity, and say that Jesus was just a really good guy who got killed for claiming things he wasn't.
Actually, since they teach against Christian beliefs (deny Christ) they are a form of antichrist.
In the copy of the Koran my pastor has, right in the first page is a statement refering to killing all Christians and Jews. Cool, huh?
You know, most of what I just typed would be appropriate on that other thread that has "How to Tinkle Off Liberals" or something like that. Especially that my church is the Wisconsin EVANGELICAL Lutheran Synod! LOL!
Not so sure that is such a bad name for him! :)
I agree with most here, we do not have the same God.
As for the muslems, they can say anything they want about their "devil god". It doesn't make it true.
This also means that the God of the Jews is not the same as the Christian God.
That's exactly right.
You can learn more by studying the story of Abraham and Sarah. When Sarah allowed her handmaiden to sleep with her husband (Abraham), the handmaiden had a child (Ismael). God told the handmaiden he would make a great nation of her child (the Arabs), if the child would worship HIM. They went off and worshipped other gods. No wonder they live in the middle ages.
Because of Jewish tradition, the eldest child inherits everything. Well, Ismael believed he was the eldest, but GOD choose Isaac as the eldest, because he was born of Sarah, Abraham's wife.
This fight over the inheritance is what the Middle East mess is all about. The arabs claim the land is theirs, and the Jews claim it is theirs. I side with the Jews, because the Bible clearly says the inheritance is Isaac's.
