The D.C. Chapter of Free Republic will forever admire the courageous stand taken by Linda Tripp to tell the truth during the dark days of the investigation leading up to the impeachment of President Clinton. This was done at great personal sacrifice.
It is with great sadness and concern that we learned recently that, while others have profited handsomely from their criminal acts during the Clinton era, Linda Tripp has been nearly bankrupted and is facing foreclosure on her home. She was fired from her government job by Bill Clinton on the last day of his term. Her attempts to find another position in her field at the George C. Marshall Center in Germany were sabotaged by a leak to the press.
Since then, according to press reports, Linda has not been able to find work commensurate with her experience. We believe that this is because she is considered radioactive as a result of her reputation for telling the truth and not going along with the business-as-usual practices of those who do work with the Federal Government.
According to press reports, actions leading to foreclosure on Linda's home in Columbia, Maryland, have commenced. She had been renting the home out while staying with friends but it has recently been without tenants.
Members of the D.C. Chapter are stepping forward to help Linda in her time of need. We want her to have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you would like to share the D.C. Chapter's efforts as we give a hand up to a FRiend, here's how you can do so:
Send a check or money order payable to Linda Tripp. Please send it c/o David K. Colapinto, Esq., Kohn, Kohn & Colapinto, P.C., 3233 P Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20007. Mr. Colapinto will see that whatever funds are received will go directly to Linda Tripp and not to a defense fund.
Disclaimer: This is a voluntary effort organized by the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic. The posting of this notice is with the consent of Free Republic, LLC. However, none of the donations for Linda will be handled by or through Free Republic, LLC, or the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic. Therefore, neither Free Republic, LLC, nor the D.C. Chapter have any responsibility for the accounting or disposition of the donations.
This effort by the D.C. Chapter is solely our idea. Linda Tripp did not ask for these donations, nor did anyone else. We are doing this because we care.

Good to see you last night. My contribution to Linda is on its way and I hadn't known she needed help.
To: ConsistentLibertarian
If you don't think Linda is worthy of a contribution, don't give her one. It's that simple.

The original "McCarthyism" was a leftist pack attack -- and in time it drove Joe McCarthy to his death. The left loves to keep talking about it because, for them, it's bragging about a kill.

Best to you, Fred!
If she wants to write that book, I happen to know a fabulous editor who would just love to pitch in!

You all in the DC Chapter do so much for all of us, I'll send her money for 2 reasons: 1) Cuz she's a hero in my book; 2) Because the DC Chapter of FR wants our help.
I don't care how she uses the money either. She can go buy herself a Christmas present for all I care.

She didn't witness President Bush Sr. committing an illegal act. The alleged affair wasn't illegal and I'm assured there was no affair in any case. She passed on an ugly, false, hurtful rumor, thereby slandering President Bush Sr. That wasn't her duty, it wasn't noble, it wasn't right, it didn't help the US Taxpayer and I'd be surprised if any employer who knew about would hire her.

Good to see you last night, as well! Merry Christmas!
Linda bump!
To: IVote2
Notice that no one here has denied that she did? You'd think, from the rhetoric, that it was an issue. Makes one wonder what _is_ the issue. I gather you wouldn't be asking if it didn't matter whether she had spread the rumor about President Bush Sr. or not. Maybe others here agree with you that it does matter, and agree moreover that it's a serious matter. That, along with their knowing that she did spread the rumor, would account for their defensiveness. Check out http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2001/2/12/55616.shtml The author is a former Repubican Congressman and big Linda Tripp supporter. If you find that any part of the article is incorrect, post a source with a correction. That way FR can do what it does best -- pool information and knowledge, and we can all learn from each other.

I asked if you thought it would be unreasonable for President Bush Sr. or President Bush Jr. or Barbara (the world's classiest woman) to have a different view of Linda Tripp. I gather you want to say that it would be reasonable to have a different view. When we can put aside personal attacks and frame a clear issue or claim, we make progress and elevate the tone on FR. As I noted above, there doesn't seem to be any disagreement about facts, but there's a difference of opinion because people put different weight on the good and the bad and so get different sums. If any part of that sounds unreasonable to you, tell me which part and tell me why. Otherwise the signal to noise ratio here is approaching zero.

Looks like the "compassionate conservatives" have left Linda Tripp high and dry despite the fact she was on the frontline fighting the good fight. With "friends" like these, it is no surprise the Republicans were the minority party for over 40 years and are now successfully pursuing that path to spinelessness. Those with blinkers on suddenly have an affinity for popularity polls to justify their compassion and high moral turpitude. Such a no-no to expose Clinton diddling Monica as Cubans burned out.

"The original "McCarthyism" was a leftist pack attack." I know.. but isn't it revealing to see how they use this technique on THEIR enemies and have successfully blackballed their targets far worse than anything Joe McCarthy ever did?
It goes WAY back, it's not a new thing at all.
Regards, Jen

elevate the tone on FR. As everyone can see by your posts to this thread, that's your highest goal in life. </sarcasm>
I don't contact the White House daily to see whether the President thinks I should admire and support someone. Do you? Aren't you able to form an opinion unless you know how the President feels about it? Do you need your every decision validated by the White House? Did you check in to see what color socks to wear today? C'mon, be a man! Make your own decisions!
If you don't like Linda, just say so, and don't support her. But stop pretending that you're here to learn the truth. Your only purpose here is to smear Linda. You've fooled no one.
To: ConsistentLibertarian
John LeBoutillier? I don't consider this a legitimate source for you to constantly refer to it as a
proven fact.
Howver, no need to reply. I'm really not interested in gossip mongering. Either by John LeBoutillier or you.

I guess she should have just gone to the Grand Jury and lied like everyone else. I'm sure she would have had a job for life then.

She was a heroine, she still is. History will vindicate Linda. I just hope she finds a job to support herself.
Kristinn, didn't she lose her pension also?

Liberal clymer for much longer I'm sure. :)

You missed the point. I couldn't get a straight answer from you on the question whether you regard it as reasonable to have a dim view of Linda Trip given her treatment of President Bush Sr and Barbara. Sometimes it helps to make the point concrete, so I asked if you'd regard _their_ view as reasonable if it were negative. Rather than answer, you want to change the topic. If you think that your highest percentage strategy is to question my intentions, that tells everyone what you think of the merits of the case against Linda Tripp. Nobody would want to divert attention from the facts if they were favorable.
