The Bill of Rights rally today in Denver went very well. Nice and peaceful. No permit, and no hassle for the rally at all - Only the men who were carrying openly were arrested. No one else was bothered in the least bit.
We thank everyone for their support. FreeRepublic will be kept updated on the facts in this case. Please visit the Stanley web site at: http://www.stanley2002.org .
The campaign will be releasing a summary later this evening or early tomorrow morning. Detailing the entire rally and updated information on Rick and Duncan. Please support these brave patriots. Rick is not taking donations for any legal expenses - he has taken that responsibility for himself. All donations should be directed to the campaign. ($1,000 limit until May - must be a U.S. Citizen) Please see the web site for more details.
THANK YOU!

Rick performed an act of civil disobedience by openly carrying a loaded weapon, in a holster, in violation of Denver Revised Municipal Code section 38-117.5(b). Stanley believes that this city ordinance is unconstitutional. It infringes citizens' rights protected by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. It is also in direct violation of Article II, Section 13 of the Colorado constitution. He will win....

He will win.... Only if the judicial system follows the law and the Constitution, which has been rare in recent history.

I am all for the 2nd Amendment. But silly stunts like this take away from those of us that want national CCW.

Not sure. The Colorado Constitution Article II Section 13 reads as follows:
Section 13. Right to bear arms. The right of no person to keep and bear arms in defense of his home, person and property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto legally summoned, shall be called in question; but nothing herein contained shall be construed to justify the practice of carrying concealed weapons.
Bill Owens the current Governor (R) ran on a very pro-gun platform, and then stabbed gun owners in the back for being the first one to sign Tom Mauser's SAFE petition. After Columbine and the high percentage of liberals in the State, such as in The People's Republic of Boulder, I wouldn't hazard a guess. I'm not the one to ask though.
I know there are many trying to get some sort of carry law passed. The predominant wish of the Libertarians and others I have spoken to is wanting Vermont Style Carry.
Again, the chances? Who knows? Perhaps things have changed since September 11?
You've asked a good question. (o:

I thought that Colorado had a shall issue law. But at the same time, I think open carry is not illegal and should NOT be illegal. If you have the cahunas to open carry then you should be allowed to.
I hope he wins, because he is right!!

Is there any chance that a right to carry law could pass in Colorado? Technically, we have one. A resident just needs to drive to a county with a sympathetic sheriff and obtain a statewide permit. Unfortunately, many of these counties are quite some distance from metro Denver (where I live). Denver won't hand out permits to anyone (unless they have connections).
Governor Owens, a Republican was going to pass uniform state-wide gun laws (including a concealed carry permit available to anyone qualified to purchase a handgun and pass a safety course). He even campaigned on this. It was so close to passing that Denver Mayor Wellington Webb (a black, liberal democrat) took out full page ads in the two main daily newspapers (payed for with Denver taxes) imploring Denver residents to write the Governor pleading not to pass this law. This was about a week or so before Columbine. Since Columbine, the issue has been placed on the back burner and forgotten. I haven't heard Owens talk about resurrecting this issue that he campaigned on.

"He fully intends to demonstrate that this ordinance is unconstitutional, and that it cannot legally be enforced."
I agree, but I'll lay you 10 to one odds that he's convicted. Whether the law is unconstitutional or not, it's the current law, and the jury must either enforce it or nullify it with an acquittal. The odds favor enforcement. I can appreciate what these guys are doing, but what sense is there in going to jail? They should be working for a CCW law in Colorado, such as we have here in Michigan. Maybe this is the opening salvo in such an attempt.
(BTW, Dan from Michigan, if you're reading this, please drop me a private reply as to an answer for this question: does Michigan's CCW permit a CCW holder to possess a handgun in Wayne County or the City of Detroit, where there are special local laws against it. I would bet that state law trumps local, but I've been wondering and I know you're up on this issue. Thanks!)

Try following the law, until you can change it. Never mind, dopes like this belong in jail. They serve no purpose for the right to keep and bear arms.
