The marginilization of whites in society (Dan Issel, Cracker Barrel, Toyota

Posted on 12/13/2001 11:03:04 PM PST by Michael2001

I know this isn't the most PC of titles, but I couldn't think of anything better to describe what I'm going to talk about. I'm going to try and take a personal story of legal racism that happened to me, and intertwine that with the Dan Issel, Cracker Barrel, and Toyota stories.

I own and run a security firm in Virginia with three other guys. We've recently been trying to expand and were about to sign a deal with a rather large company in Richmond, this would have been huge for a firm of our size and I was already celebrating and looking for overly expensive Christmas gifts for my wife. Well it fell through, apparently the guys who were about to ink the deal with us got the message from higher ups in the company that they ought to sign with a minority firm. I can't give any details because nothing's final yet; but all signs point to the fact that we're going to lose out because we're 4 white guys competing with a firm run by Hispanics. I repeat, we're going to lose a lot of money- because we're white.

Dan Issel is the coach of the Denver Nuggets. In an altercation with a fan he called him a friggin Mexican (only he didn't say friggin). They had a guy from some Hispanic group on the O'Reilly Factor tonight. Not only does his group want Issel fired, but they want the Nuggets orginization to hire more Hispanics and do more work with Hispanic media. Now we're in a recession right now, companies aren't exactly hiring people right now. If the Nuggets cave and start to hire Hispanics, who do you think is going to be first in line to get fired?; you got it, white folk, they're going to be fired to make room for Hispanics, all so the Nuggets can say look at how diverse we are, please don't sue us.

Toyota just gave Jesse Jackson 700 million dollars so that he will not brand their corporation racist.

The Cracker Barrel is currently being sued for 100 million dollars for claims that they are racist to black customers. No proof, just the world of black customers against the word of Cracker Barrel management. I'd guess that the odds are very favorable that the black customers will win this lawsuit.

LOL!! We are a sub S corp also, but hubby still owns the controlling share. Going to sub S rather than self-employed ure saved us on taxes!

I guess as Innocent Bystander pointed out, it would be better to stand up to the system and change it, rather than learning to work within it, but so many regular hardworking people are so busy just making a living.

I can just see the man insulted. He goes home, hangs up his coat, tells his wife, the coach of da Nuggets called me a "Mexican piece of shit". She turns to him and says "you are, just look in the mirror".

It seems as if you are getting at exactly what I think. I do not even see Issel's commensts as being "racist". The logic is if a white man addresses someone else, and uses their "ethnicity" in the address, then its racist. Doesn't this guy realize there are Irish POS's, Italian POS's, Russian POS's, Chinese POS's, Black POS's......... I think Issel was just making sure this guy understood what type of a piece of shit he is! They come in all shapes, sizes and ...gasp...ethnicities.

When did "Mexican" become equivalent to "white trash"? It's not actually an insult to call someone a Mexican.

"I bought Falling Down a few years ago. And I like to watch it from time to time, just to remind myself how my life imitates art. I realize that this movie featured an arch-commie in Michael Douglas, but it really rings true about what a pool of garbage the United States has become."

If someone called me an Irish or an American, I wouldn't be insulted. I wouldn't be insulted to be called a Mexican either but I'm not one.

There are the four of us who own it, (me and another are former military, the other two are active police). There are about eight we hire as guards (mainly family of the four of us). We're all white.

"One of my friends told everyone at work he was a Native American. He even had Indian prints on the wall. Worked like a charm. Remember, if you say you are an American Indian, it's intolerant to ask you to verify it."

I've heard of people doing that to get into better colleges.

Sentiments like those my friend uttered are misguded and wrong

Note that other races can say and have said such things about Whites. Note also that those comments are broadcast and treated as generally acceptable.

Therefore one side fights. The other side lies supine. Guess which side wins?

Laws being what they are, it is unlikely that this will be permitted to change.

Solution? Make your wives the owners of the business. Female owned businesses are another category of "historically underutilized businesses", so you can - perhaps - work the system.

Pro-active measures are the answers here. How do you think these laws came into existance??? By people going and sitting in the corner and complaining to each other about how they were wronged???

Copy the actions of the rable rousers who helped pass these laws.

The White man can be just as vocal and make just as many changes once you accept the facts posted in #52 above.

Get real. He called him a bleeping Mexican piece of Bleep. I don't think he was innocently using the word Mexican in this context. Don't be so "conservatively PC". It is not a crime to respect people. It is not an inconveninece to be respectful. Compassion isn't a dirty word only attributed to evil liberals. Conservatives are allowed to be passionate and respectful too.

Is calling someone a "bleeping Mexican" worse than calling someone else a "bleeping Englishman" or a "bleeping Frenchman" or "bleeping American"? The adjective was offensive but a heckling fan is asking for some kind of verbal abuse back. I don't see the racism because Mexican is how describe themselves, it's not a derogatory word, only the f word was.

Maybe the coach should be suspended for swearing and using the "f" word to a heckling fan but since the fan started the verbal abuse, he should also be suspended from attending games. They can make rules that no hostility can be displayed at sports events. Fans can only speak politely at the coaches and referees and must be answered back politely.

You can rest assured I have no problem with banning abusive and/or drunk fans. It will still never justify dropping a racially derogatory remark. All parties in this one can be tossed as far as I'm concerned.
