SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - After a number of embarrassing mishaps that have left some members of this city's Board of Supervisors screaming for answers, the Department of Elections will try again Tuesday to get it right during a runoff election.

Voting irregularities in Willie Brown's San Francisco? Who would have figured?

Rats steal from their own huh? The same ones who run around accusing President Bush of having stolen the election in Florida. Seems to me since the Rats live in a glass house they'd want to be careful about throwing stones. And ah the you can see the cracks in the perfect facade of their glass house. When it comes to cheating and fixing elections the Rats are pros. They just can't help do what they do even if it ends up biting their fellow liberals right in the ass. What a sorry crew of low lifes...

Horseshi*. To be embarrassed requires a sense of morality to give one shame. Nothing of the kind in SF.

It would be a GREAT exercise to go thru this article and for every name that appears research that persons political party affiliation. Then re-write the story including that party information - Then post it at DU and ask them if their team from Florida moved to S.F.!

I didn't know anything could embarrass them.

This from the city that brought us Prop F and I---ballot measures that would have had the city take over power from PG&E.
They can't even run an election with less than 25% voter turnout.

This is a major imposition on the voters. I would urge all black voters to strike and not vote in this election unless they were paid twice as much as last election, each time they vote. The illegal Mexican voters don't get an increase, however, but will get an opportunity to vote more frequently in this election. There will be no ballot boxes fould floating in the bay this time, Brown's people will weight them down.

Well, San Francisco has two parties. Left-wing Democrats are the city's "moderates" (and ballot-tampering experts). The Communists, or progressives, as they call themselves, propose a lot of radical legislation but they aren't as skilled at political corruption so they usually lose.
Republicans? Those few that live here are Riordanesque...and still reviled as fascists.

"...and the Coast Guard fished eight ballot box lids out of San Francisco Bay several weeks later. What is up with this? The Board of Supervisors is screaming, but what about the rest of the city? BTW, they didn't say from what election. Unbelievable.

And another thing...I think I am on a rant, if this could happen in one election, how many others has this happened in? Incredible.

I heard that in a past election on some proposal, perhaps the one to oust dotcom businesses from buying up property, that more votes were cast than registered voters. SF politics is dirtier than Chicago or Moscow. I'm sure several thousand homeless will cast votes today.

the city was sued for not printing candidates' names on the ballots in Chinese. Someday we'll have the ballots printed up in 200 languages.

It's almost fun to see San Francisco's political system fall like a pack of cards, and the Big One hasn't even hit the place yet.
To: vannrox
When do they get around to blaming this on Republicans?

Someone cracked a joke, whether it was here or on tv, that pretty soon we'll need someone like Jimmy Carter overseeing OUR elections. Why aren't the election fraud laws enforced? BTW, thanks for poking with a stick while I'm in rant-mode. grrrr...

It's almost fun to see San Francisco's political system fall like a pack of cards... But is it falling? Has anything actually been done about this, or will it be?

Yes, the GOP is completely invisible here. You know you're in trouble when the most conservative politician in town is Willie Brown. And, yet, there are a few tiny sparks of hope. The attempt to socialize the City's power system was defeated (barely) in the last election.

San Francisco embarrassed? That's two words I never thought I'd encounter in the same sentence.
