Most male clients make upwards of $250,000 a year. Nice guy, but broke? "Don't bother," says Ms. Spindel. Wow. Its amazing that with a single sentence, Ms. Spindel was able to sum up the problems with American society!

I've quit trying, for the same reasons. Why take a gamble on a proposition where you stand to lose half your stuff and possibly make alimony payments for the rest of your life?
Look at the positives. You're allowed to sit on the couch in your underwear drinking beer and eating things that are far too fattening while watching "Baywatch". Plus, poker night every Friday with the guys...and you don't have to "ask" permission!
I must say, in all of my experiences with women, the best part was the ending.

I hear you. I can't seem to find anyone who isn't 1. married 2. Diseased 3. Clinically insane or 4. a combination of these qualities. I need to get out of Miami. :-)
I don't plan on marriage until I'm well into my thirties (I'm 25). I need to make some money and get settled into a career first.

There's something screwy about a guy who doesn't start looking for a mate until after he's 35You don't need the flame-retardent suit. I just wanted to point out that some of us have been looking, but haven't found. I have learned that the old saying is true, "love discriminates against the shy and the ugly". Being a good man isn't enough anymore.

And lose any children of the marriage, and your pension, and your civil rights. Divorce has been made Hell on Earth by the male-bashing feminist divorce court system.

I used to ride up and down the high rise elevators in a large West Coast city with the single women who worked there. They complained that although there appeared to be more single men in the building then women, many of the elegible men were more interested in other men than in women and that therefore there was a real shortfall in available men.

What about the effect of job stress on the dating scene. A lot of people, both sexes, are too busy trying to hang in there with very stressful jobs.

What an unlifting way to start the weekend.

Well, there's one solution for male heteros halfway attractive and gainfully employed: Move to New York. The women there complain that all the good-looking men are gay. Of course, you'll end up married to a New Yorker.

the best part was the endingDon't totally agree with that notion, but love the screen name.....

I think my last date turned gay during our last dinner.

I'm so glad I'm married, I'm so glad I'm married, I'm so glad I'm married, I'm so glad I'm married, I'm so glad I'm married, I'm so glad I'm married, I'm so glad I'm married, I'm so glad I'm married, I'm so glad I'm married, I'm so glad I'm married, I'm so glad I'm married, I'm so glad I'm married.Likewise. Didn't meet her until I was 37 and fully convinced I'd never find someone.

I've quit trying, for the same reasons. Why take a gamble on a proposition where you stand to lose half your stuff and possibly make alimony payments for the rest of your life? I'm 32 and gave up years ago. I have one kid from my marriage (the only good thing to result from said union). Once you get to the divorce (and the odds are more than 50% of getting divirced), you're hosed. The divorce industry is rigged against men, especially if there are kids involved.
The pool of available candidates is pretty slim. The women in my age group either want kids or already have at least one of their own. I have one kid and she is the center of my attention. I don't have the time or resources to help raise someone elses or to have another one of my own. The few (VERY FEW) decent women who don't have and don't want kids have their pick of the field and while I'm no Homer Simpson, I'm also no Brad Pitt.
This whole "biological clock" thing is a non-issue for me. It's like if the capital gains tax was 90%...there's too much risk for the possible reward.

Of course, you'll end up married to a New Yorker. And what's wrong with that? All of us New Yorkers are not like you-know-who.

Of course, you'll end up married to a New Yorker. There is a good reason that this ex-New Yorker has only dated Latin girls. Then again, all of the truly classy Latin girls down here want you to be a Millionaire with a Ferrari.
Then again, those girls I met on a trip to the Cajun Country weren't too bad either. :-)
Someone should start a thread on which region has the best Women/Men for single Freepers.

No, of course all New Yorkers are not like you-know-who. But I'd still rather take my chances in Savannah, Atlanta, or Austin.

And lose any children of the marriage, and your pension, and your civil rights. Divorce has been made Hell on Earth by the male-bashing feminist divorce court system.I hear ya, brother. If there wasn't such a financial incentive for women to file for divorce I don't think the divorce rate would be as high as it is...if you want more of something, subsidise it.
Okay gals, the asbestos boxers are on..I'm ready for the flames I'm likely to get for saying that.
