Sen. Majority Leader Tom Daschle said Thursday he expected Democrats to oppose President Bush if Bush decides to go after Iraq's Saddam Hussein, who many terrorism experts believe financed and helped train hijackers for Osama bin Laden's 9/11 attacks on the U.S.
Daschle, appearing on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes," predicted that Democrats would publicly turn against the president as soon as they disagreed with his management of the war effort.
ALAN COLMES: You've been very supportive of the president and the way this war's being conducted. At what point do you think, could you see Democrats taking issue with some of the way the war might be conducted? For example, if there's a foray into Iraq or expansion of the war, can you see a time when there's less agreement on Capitol Hill?
DASCHLE: Oh, absolutely. Obviously, we got into quite a bit of disagreement about foreign policy last summer. But that is because we disagreed. Right now I think the administration is doing the kind of job that warrants agreement, that warrants support. (End of Excerpt)
But despite his clear statement that he would "absolutely" oppose any foray into Iraq, moments later the top Democrat seemed to hedge his bets.
COLMES: If they go after Saddam Hussein, if that's the next step, will you be against that? Will there be more dissention about that?
DASCHLE: Well, I don't want to get into hypothetical situations at this point, Alan. I don't think it's very productive. Obviously we're going to take each call one at a time. We'll make our decisions - support those that we can support and oppose those that we're going to be required to oppose.

Read this transcript from the
News Hour of Feb, 1998. Daschole had a viewpoint which was 180 degrees different while the 'toon was in office.
Page down a couple of times until you get to Daschole's response.

I listened to Imus this morning and his guest was the whistleblower who has strong evidence that Clinton and Berger let Osama bin Laden walk away after several of our Arab allies were ready to arrest him on terrorism charges.
Imus was very torked off. The thrust of the broadcast was that Clinton and Berger ought to be blamed for all of the Twin Tower deaths ... and any other terrorist attacks.
Dash-hole is just trying to make Bush look bad. He will fail.
I'm just waiting for the next terror attack .... these Democrats will all be turned out of office by public demand.

Lieberman definitely sounded very very hawkish last night on O'Reilly. I think a few more Dems will certainly support Bush on squashing Saddam. I bet the witch who represents me in NY will even support going after Saddam. I hope Dashole takes a stand on this and loses big time.

ALAN COLMES: You've been very supportive of the president and the way this war's being conducted. . . . . . DASCHLE: Oh, absolutely. . . .
This is crap reporting:
One can read that question and answer many ways. That is the problem with asking compound questions, one can not be sure which part of the question the answerer was answering. I think this is making a story when one is not there.

But despite his clear statement that he would "absolutely" oppose any foray into Iraq This is the slopply, overstated, conclusion which simply cannot be drawn from that question and answer cited in the story. I am not a Dashle defender, but overstating arguement and making issues and divisions where none exist is poor reporting.

Daschle is probably expecting a campaign contribution from Saddam. We have an embarrassment called Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania;Vermont has Patrick Leahy who is as dumb as a cinder block;Massachusetts has an oversexed drunk; and New York has Hillary.(P> But Daschle is IMHO the pits. He is conniving liar on par with our former national role model.
He is dispicable.

Dems Will Buck Bush on Iraq Attack It seems to me that the democrats support terrorism all the way.
But bombing Yugoslavia was OK when x42 was in charge.

This is not terribly good reporting on the part of NewsMax. It takes a great deal of parsing to interpret this as a flat-out refusal to support an Iraqi war; a more reasonable reading is that Daschle is answering Colmes's question about supporting/opposing war conduct in general. Agreed... extreme hyperbole in the analysis here. Daschole is just this side of Satan, in my opinion, but he didn't say what NewsMax is making him out to have said.

The demos are afraid we might get Saddam and that would only increase the numbers for Bush in the many polls they like to run.
To: okiecowgirl
What little Tommy D@sshole meant when he back-tracked was
"Um......we're going to wait to see what the poll numbers say....."Dumbocrats don't go to the john without taking a poll or holding a focus group first........
