"The parents had moved from Washington to California when their son, whom they named after John Lennon, was 10, and had brought up their three kids to have open minds."

What a couple of bonehead parents.

Catholic Dad and Buddhist Mom are in the middle of an amicable divorce...so said the Dad on Larry King Live last night. John is the middle of 3 kids. They have a 23 year old son who works in a record store, and a young daughter, I forgot her exact age.

I read this from a Fox News story:

His parents then paid for him to travel to Yemen to study Arabic. They lost track of him after he moved on to Pakistan, where he studied the Quran at a religious school.

His PARENTS PAID for him to travel to Yemen?? These people are pathetic.. they typify the parental movement that views themselves as facilitators rather than parents.

If he is so brilliant, why are his parents worried about a possible charge of treason resulting in the death penalty? He is referred to as a teen but I would point out that he is elder to many of our soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen. Choices in life matter. He has made bad choices, abetted by a liberal upbringing. Now he reaps the consequences at an early age. I sympathise as a parent and vilify his actions as a patriot. He merits hanging.

Just a couple of terms being thrown around too loosely are "brilliant" and "good boy."

Thanks for posting this, Kattracks. That the kid is labeled "brilliant" is clearly misuse of the term - determined, yes; brilliant, no. If his father is such a devout Irish Catholic, then his father should have taught him that Islam is false!

With parents like that, the kid never had a chance. What dolts. Has anyone told them that their kid is a TRAITOR?!!! And, by definition, traitors are not nice people. Duh.

Both John's father, Frank Lindh, a strict Irish Catholic, and his mother, Marilyn Walker, a Buddhist, were supportive of their son's new faith.

Sorry, N.Y. Post...if this guy were such a "strict Irish Catholic," he:

  1. Probably wouldn't have married a Buddhist
  2. Certainly would not have been supportive of his son (for whom he bears the responsibility of education in the Faith) embracing a heresy
Basically, the kid is a nut. He should have been in a mental hospital, instead of running around Asia.

Also, I'd like everyone to think hard where this kid got all this crap put into his head.

That's right: PUBLIC SCHOOL.

Something to think about.

Hang the traitor then cut off his left hand and send it to Dasch-hole to remind him how close he is to being accused and convicted of treason.

The parents had moved from Washington to California when their son, whom they named after John Lennon, was 10, and had brought up their three kids to have open minds

So mere days after the death of celebrity-hippie George Harrison, we learn of this guy -- named after celebrity-hippie and kumbaya 'peace activist' John Lennon.

Whatta world.

What I want to know is if the "BRILLIANT TEEN" was involved in killing
(by kicking, beating, and biting) American Hero Mike Spann?

Appearing on The Today Show this morning, the father claimed that "his son hadn't done anything wrong" and that "his son converted to Islam because it is a peaceful religion." The general tone of Katie's interview was very respectful of the father and his feelings, though she did allow at the end that "some people" consider his son "a traitor".

Asked about his son's statements supporting the USS Cole and Sep. 11 attacks, the father said: "my son has just gone through a horrible ordeal, and it was wrong to ask him any questions. I'm sure that given time to reflect he wouldn't say those things."

Really? Didn't he join and fight with the Taliban precisely because he DID support a war on the West?

1. He's not brilliant - joining the Taliban is in the definition of 'stupid'.
2. He's not a teen - that means he can be tried, convicted, and hung as an adult.
3. Anyone who wants to fight against us is free to leave the country, give up their citizenship, and be shot on sight.
4. Whoever wrote this article should be forced to spend a month with homeschooled Christian families. Maybe then he'd see some brilliant teens schooling themselves - and just maybe going off to fight on the right side!

BRILLIANT TEEN SCHOOLED HIMSELF IN ISLAM

...joined the Taliban, got trained at an Osama bin Laden camp, fought against the U.S. and Northen Alliance, got caught, got thrown into prison, and managed to escape getting killed in the prison uprising. I guess he really wasn't that brilliant, just lucky in the last instance.
