You are not understanding the point. This is not about Spain at this precise moment. This is about the war on terrorism and what we are going to do with other countries. At a minimum, I can forsee great criticism about our double standard in the fight on terrorism. In fact, it has already started and I suspect that as time goes on it will become much worse. At a minimum, the military tribunal will be worthless if countries don't extradite. If Bin Ladin makes it to a country that says they will not extradite if Bin Laden is subjected to a military tribunal - are we going to invade the country? Will we invade it if it is Iraq but not invade it if it is Spain?
I have no desire to try to make you understand why this is something worthy of consideration. Either you understand why or you don't. You don't. Enough said.

Helen Thomas asked the following question at a news conference: Does the President feel the United States has the right to bomb or invade any country harboring terrorists? Is he going to invade Spain?
How utterly liberal of her. One thing you see more and more of these days is the press using questions to make a politcal statement. Helen Thomas is not a journalist, but simple a transparent liberal leftwing hack. She should have had her press pass pulled years ago.

You are not understanding the point. This is not about Spain at this precise moment. This is about the war on terrorism and what we are going to do with other countries. Apparantly you, and Helen, have short memories:
And we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation, in every region, now has a decision to make. Either you are with us, or you are with the terrorists. (Applause.) From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime.

The part I don't understand is what constitutes safe haven or aid. If you don't turn over a terrorist due to the threat of death via military tribunal...are you considered a terrorist?
It is not as clear cut as you would make it out to be.
To: RummyChick
If you don't turn over a terrorist due to the threat of death via military tribunal...are you considered a terrorist? What the President said is that if you provide aid or safe harbor, you will be considered a hostile regime. "The threat of death via military tribunal" is the will of our people to see justice served as expressed by our elected Commander in Chief. If a nation chooses to harbor a suspected terrorist rather than see them face that justice, I presume that nation would be considered hostile. I hope so.
Now, what does one get for being a "hostile nation"? We don't know yet, do we? It might depend. What we can say is this: that old gasbag Helen Thomas doesn't need to know what we would do if we decided Spain was a hostile nation. She's an idiot. As the war progresses, we will find out more. I think it is wise that nations around the world are left to wonder what their fate may be. Let 'em think about it for a while.

Hard to say. I've read the transcripts. It all seems so neat and tidy. Like a made for television movie.
The new tape could be fabricated. We know for certain that it has been edited. It certainly seems odd to me that UBL would make such a tape.
