I don't believe that any court has upheld a judgment against a forum for the independent posts placed there. I believe the most recent case involved Yahoo message boards and folks who were libeling companies there.
Unless you know of a case that I'm not aware of, you are being a little alarmist in that aspect.
Having said that, it certainly is possible for any poster here to post something libelous or something that would constitute "False Light" and be actionable. Posting anonymously on the internet is no protection. Anyone can be tracked down eventually.

Yes, but if a liberal made fun of President Bush or a Conservative being sent Anthrax letters they would be opposed and would most likely be banned from FR. This being true your friends appear to be supporting the terrorists over their elected officials. This is very disturbing to me.

I thought I heard other senators had received anthrax letters. What gives. Was it only two or were there others?
To: Ragtime Cowgirl
someone from the one of the whacko left special interest groups attempting to pin this on the right out of desperation because not even the leftist press can destroy President Bush in the eyes of most Americans You have to admit, the timing is a bit odd. They pull this letter out of the mail bag right on the heals of his challenge to President Bush's order for military tribunals to try foreigners accused of terrorist attacks. Just another one of those darn coincidences.

Interesting choice of Senators to target.
This is not good news for conservatives. I can understand terrorists knowing Dashle but not Leahy. He is not a democrat superstar. This seems to be something that some milita type would target. Oh wait thats right. Extremeists who are members of the right do not exist. McVeigh really was an a Super agent of Iraq and Osama.

Yes, the Army of God also are social tinkerers who do not accept and/or oppose by non-violent means an existing law. Clearly, God does not have an 'army' on earth; they are the same as the taliban by their own definition. To somehow attach terrorist connotations of radical social groups stimulated by Liberalism to the Party of Lincoln is to defy history itself.

This was with the quarantined mail. Give them a break!!!!
NO. I will NOT "give them a break" AND, for heavens sakes, I am fully aware that that envelope was with the quarantined mail. THEY have been going through that mail for a LONG LONG LONG time now.
They should have been working 24/7 with THOUSANDS of people going through that sanitized mail to find more envelopeS with the Anthrax Perpetrator's block printing on it.
Give them a BREAK?
Huh?????
WHO are you to tell me that?
Every hour that goes by without finding ALL of the anthrax laced mail makes the trail to the perp go cold. As if they ain't having a hard enough time finding that miserable murderous creep.
I am NOT impressed with the HEALTH officials in this country, and I am appalled at the way this investigation is being conducted.

I still say there is another letter that got stuck in a machine at the post office, got ripped up getting it out, and was thrown away as unrecoverable. I'm sure that's how so much Anthrax was spread around the PO and on all the other mail. It's the only explaination.
To: FR_addict
They found anthrax in the offices of a lot of senators near Daschle's....the spores dispersed a good distance..but no other actual letters.

This being true your friends appear to be supporting the terrorists over their elected officials. This is very disturbing to me. I understand your disgust, in principle. However, you are making WAY WAY more of the comment than what was intended. NO ONE IS HAPPY AN AMERICAN OF ANY STRIPE WAS SENT ANTHRAX!!!!! This anthrax thing has effected all of us. You are being unfair to act like only liberals were targets. It is not like any of them open their own mail anyway.
I get that you don't like conservatives. We are not a bunch of felons. (In fact, if you check the prisons I bet you'd find most felons are liberals.)

quote "Conservative Republicans and Righties respect and defend the Constitution (duh)." then i guess asscroft is a liberal. who'd a thunk it?

Couldn't happen to a nicer communist! Don't any of these letters ever get through?

This situation has more consequences than you might imagine. I've got a missing New Jersey interstate child support payment that was part of a batch of 8,000 checks delayed because of anthrax at the Trenton mail handling facilities. There are people who are also waiting for New Jersey state unemployment and disability checks who share my problem. I've been waiting for the money since October 24th and the check still hasn't surfaced. This has been a really nervewracking situation for me; I'm furious!

So McVeigh was a liberal? I wonder why a good liberal would belong to a militia, read the Turner Diaries, oppose Clinton's actions at Waco and condemn the Governments intrusion into his life?McVeigh didn't belong to a militia. He tried, attended a meeting, but the militia saw through him and told him to get lost.
People of all political stripes were upset about Waco when they saw the pictures of the kids who'd been killed. The right didn't like the methods. The left didn't like the results, and then questioned the methods.
Smart people on both the right and the left are questioning the latest anti-terrorism bills that encroach on the rights of Americans.
My 2 cents: I don't think an American or, at the very least, an American with no Mid-East connections is involved in the anthrax mailings. Leftist terrorist types would not choose these targets, and right wing terrorists would not choose these targets first.
Also, an American would know that the big wig senators and news anchors do not do lowly chores like opening their own mail. For an Islaamic terrorist who wants to spread fear and kill Americans, a near miss and the ensuing publicity and panic would be fine. An American would not waste weapons-grade anthrax (or sleep well afterwards) to kill an innocent administrative assistant instead of the intended target.

History also respects a winner. Byrd with agree with you, but I do not. I like your screenname though.
'then i guess asscroft is a liberal. who'd a thunk it?'
LOL, that's a riot!

You're assuming the person who sent these letters is perfectly sane. I don't think that assumption is justified.
I'm sticking with my rightwing nut theory until something comes up to add to the facts we know.

Hmmmm, although someone who was trying to pin the blame on conservatives would know that the intended targets would never touch the contents.
Hmmmmm.....

You belong at DU then. The fact that we're at war and have had several devastating attacks against our nation in rapid succession makes you swallow the Liberal lies, go figure.
