Alliance Envoy Says Kandahar Falls to Opposition

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan (Reuters) - Northern Alliance ambassador in Tajikistan Said Ibrohim Hikmat told reporters that the Taliban stronghold of Kandahar fell into the hands of the opposition and tribal rebels Wednesday.

``Today the forces of the Northern Alliance entered Kandahar,'' the ambassador said.

``They went in with the support of the local population which was rebelling,'' he said. ``The town is now under the control of the northern alliance. There are no Taliban in the city.''

The report could not be independently confirmed but one tribal leader said the Taliban had thrown a defensive circle around Kandahar and would fight off any attempt to capture the city.

... IRAN or IRAQ???? given the LONG BRUTAL war between Iran and IRAQ... MIGHT I suggest IRAN is the WEAKEST and THUS more aptly to fall QUICKLY?????

Take a close look at Iran. It seems to be ready for a change. I expect it to be more to our interest that it be a political change rather than amilitary one.

Pashtun leader to undermine Taleban (BBC)

Another leading Pashtun has begun an attempt to attract Pashtuns away from their support for the Taleban in Afghanistan.

Gul Agha Sherzai, a former governor of the Taleban stronghold of Kandahar, has led a force of 1,000 men across the border from the Pakistani city of Quetta in an attempt to force the collapse of the Taleban.

An aid to Mr Agha said the decision to go was taken following a three-day meeting of Afghan Pashtun tribal leader and former commanders.

He is expected to try and join forces with Hamid Karzai, a Pashtun nobleman, who slipped into Taleban territory shortly after the US bombing raids to undermine Taleban support.

Back into Hell? What do you think it was with Al Quada and the Talibs?

Think about this choice carefully. Which would be better; Having your sister forced to give up her job and wear a sack over her head, or having your sister raped and murdered. Which would be closer to hell?

STRATFOR is reporting that the Taliban is organizing a 'tactical retreat' to tiny neighborhood convenience stores all over America.

They can have the friggin' 7-11’s but we want our liquor stores back!

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner....

Good one bro! Let me repost if for you, formatted:

'Twas the night before...

'Twas the night before Payback and all through the Land,
They're running like rabbits in Afghanistan,
Osama's been praying, he's down on his knees,
He's hoping that Allah will hear all his Pleas.
He thought if he killed us that we'd fall and Shatter,
But all that he's done is just make us Madder.
We ain't yet forgotten our Marines in Beirut,
And we'll kick your butt, with one heavy Boot.
And yes we remember the USS Cole,
And the lives of our sailors that you bastards Stole.
You think you can rule us and cause us to Fear,
You'll soon get the answer if you live to hear.
And we ain't forgotten your buddy Saddam,
And he ain't forgotten the sound of our Bombs.
You think that those mountains are somewhere to hide.
They'll go down in history as the place where you Died.
Remember Khadhafi and his Line of Death?
He came very close to his final Breath.
So come out and prove it, that you are a Man,
'Cause our boys are coming and they have a Plan.
They are our fathers and they are our Sons,
And they sure do carry some mighty big Guns.
They would have stayed home with children and Wives,
Till you bastards came here and took all these Lives.
Osama I wrote this especially for You,
For air mail delivery by B-52.
You soon will be hearing a thud and a whistle,
Old Glory is coming,
attached to a Missile.
I will not be sorry to see your ass Go.
It's Red, White, and Blue that is running this Show.

What was bid Laden's number one priority before October 7th, and what is his priority now? I'll let you mull that over.

Now the game may or may not begin in earnest. The US must decide what it will do if anything to bring peace or whether it will just let the country quietly descend back into hell. I doubt that the tribes are ready to call it a day.

I think the only form of government that will work is a representative government. A revolutionary ( pun intended ) concept in the Middle East. We should translate the Constitution into all the local dialects, turn it into pamphlets, and drop them everywhere.

If these people don't have repesentation in their government, the Pashtun - being the most numerous - will remain in power, the various other tribes will feel left out, and the violence will continue.

Does anyone have any news on the hostages? I'm going to turn on Fox.

CIA will quietly begin killing people.

Not killing people, neutralizing threats.

only one question. Who do we DESTROY next. IRAN or IRAQ?

Look closely at Lebanon. Lots of terror organizations (that were recently added to the list). Weak local government. Iran won't directly commit their military. Syria has only a small contingent there.

This is the best part.

No handwringing about "winning the hearts and minds" and other inanities.
They're just gone...

Seems as if they gave up quite hastily. Perhaps too hastily. First they were taunting us, daring us. Now we are there, and they evacuate. Something smells rotten...I don't like it.

The reason they will fight is that many of them are arabs with no state to go to

Isn't it amazing how often that happens?

The will love the part about slavery and 3/5ths representation, but they will never agree on which tribe will be the slaves.

Representative governments are a finely constructed house of cards that require generations of preparation and conditioning of the civilian population to take root. No such basis exists in Afghanistan.
