Generally, when one holds a 'press conference,' it is because one has something to say. Ashcroft seems to be crafting a different methodology. When HE calls a press conference, it is because he has NOTHING to say, OR that he has something to say, but makes it SOUND like nothing.

The President needs to sit him down and have a short talk with him. "Use plain language, John. Small words are our friends. Say things people can understand. And, if you don't have anything to say, don't waste the media's time. They already don't like us - don't p!!! them off." That should about do it.

Ashcroft is beginning to bother me. I don't care for people who rely on obfuscation in their speech, and he seems to dish it out by the ladleful. I thought we were getting an AG who would lay it on the line. What happened to him?

I am disturbed at what I saw tonight. There was no specific information offered but Ashcroft appeared very ashen and serious. I have a feeling the government is sitting on some pretty scary information right now. I'm not sure that it is a good idea for President Bush to go to the game tomorrow night. But of course, he's going to go now that it's been announced to the whole world. If he backs out of the game now, it won't send a very good message.

...no different then the boy who cried wolf on these alerts???

I don't know about anyone else, but here is how I am taking this...

1. The govt. gets info that something may be afoot, but they don't get the details.

2.They consider whether to issue a warning or keep quiet because they have no meaningful details.

3. They consider the ramifications of saying nothing if something does, in fact, happen.

4.Because they don't want to face the questions--Why didn't you say something?---they decide to issue the warning as best as they can.

All we can do is to take it literally and be on the lookout for any suspicious activity.
