Well, I just finished installing Windows XP on my computer. It did not go nice and smooth. I ended up reformatting my hard drive and starting from scratch. I know Windows XP sure does not like AOL 6.0. I am in the process of downloading AOL 7.0. I am still installing all my old software. Yes Windows XP locked up on me many times today and last night. Well, I guess I just would like to know how every one else is doing with Windows XP.
That was great and so true.
I hate AOL and it is everywhere.....
For instance, when you upgraded from Win9x to Win2K, if there were any 16bit windows applications on your system, they would no longer work! And installing EZ-CD Creator becomes impossible.

Wow! Since "Day One?" I didn't know that they had electricity back then! I've only been using "The Internet" since 1980 (anybody else remember rn and uucp, complete with "bang paths"?).

Stop pushing your religious beliefs on everyone else. You Linus Torvalds worshippers are sooooo annoying.
Thin-skinned, aren't we? I didn't bash Microsoft at all, and suggested a side-by-side comparison. I think you'd better look in a mirror when you talk about pushing religious beliefs.
I guess that is why this forum is run on a Windows machine, huh??? NOT!!
I am NOT against Windows, as I have made MANY thousands repairing PCs and writing code to run on them, and I use as many OSes as I can. But to make a blanket statement about any one OS over any others is bigoted at best, and ignorant to say the least.
It sounds like YOU have the RATS, Collectivist mentality to me. (it is either the RATS way, or NO way!!)
From the Who Started First archives. I started with 16K of RAM and a rubber keyboard (so there).
Hah! I started with 4K of RAM on a chicklet keyboard (TRS-80 MC-10).
Nor am I, but it DOES sound like you want to tear down the Mac OS and Linux. Each has it's own merits. (and I don't just mean graphics on the Mac and web-serving on Linux)
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition English MLP NA Only Additional License: $89.10
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition English UPG MLP NA Only Additional License: $189.00
It doesn't explain the difference between the two, and what "MLP NA" and "UPG MLP NA" mean (I suppect NA means North America). Any ideas from you or anyone else??
(p.s. Wait!. Think I figured it out as I was writing the first paragraph -- If you buy the XP Home OS without an upgrade the cost is $199, an additional license is $89.10, total: $288.10. If you buy the XP Home using an upgrade from an earlier system, the cost is $99, an additional license is $189.00, total: $288.00 and you save a dime this way. What a bargin an upgrade and extra license are. < /sarcasm>)
You head the nail on the head. That's exactly what Bill Gates is, a good business man. No, make that a great business man. He would have to be a great business man to build a virtual monopoly with a inferior product. However, what he is not is a great programmer. He didn't even develop MSDOS that IBM chose to be on there original PC in 1981, he bought it from some poor sap who didn't know how valuable it was.
Also, if IBM hadn't of chosen to use Microsoft's OS on their IBM PC, you probably would have never even heard of the name Microsoft or Bill Gates today.
It is very stable for my 450 mhz AMD and 256 MB ram. Crashes? -- I don't have that!
Gawd, I'd almost forgotten about that stuff. My nightmare was that I managed a commercial site and the only people nearby were universities. They did not want to let us on to their turf.
That is - You hit the nail on the head.
Linux. I have used it; however, it was about 2 years ago. I never could get drivers for my video cards, so I had to give up on it.
And what happens when one of your apps hangs? The only stable way to run multiple apps on a pre-OS X box is to run them on a different box.
It not difficult at all. All you need to know is c++ and how to write your own device drivers
that evening i couldn't access the internet. it appears there were three problems:
1. my hp burner--drivers that conflict with xp. i uninstalled all my hp products.
2. my zone alarm conflicts with my isp. i uninstalled za.
3. the internal xp firewall. my isp recommended that i turn it off. i did at first, but have since turned it back on.
the only problem i have is an error message on my e-mail, saying that a connection is already established.
It's too bad it's not run on win2k. I notice everytime it gets busy the board goes down. Election night, impeachment, etc...
I guess you get what you pay for. And linux isn't truly *free* it ends up costing more in support costs than windows does.
