The donation money trail; Red Cross use of charitable contributions questioned
Nightline, Koppel et al ^ | 10/26/01 | Red Cross and Dr. Healy

Posted on 10/26/2001 9:14:13 PM PDT by Diogenesis

This just in: Nightline.

Of the >$575 million dollars, the Red Cross took more than $300,000,000 given by donors
intended for 911 victims --- for THEMSELVES including overhead and overseas projects.

Bernadine Healy, head of the American Red Cross abruptly resigned.

"I had no choice," Healy said.

Just in case someone mistakes you as someone with reading comprehension skills....fyi: that article does not mention anything about the September 11th money being used to help the Christian girls in Afghanistan.

No, it doesn't. In fact, the article is dated BEFORE 9/11. Its posted as an example of what the red cross actually does overseas. Got it?

Sorry to join this thread late but something strange is going on.

If you read Healy's statement her reason for resigning was a recent decision by the international body not to recognize a member nation branch. The early news reports of her resignation emphasized the collateral issues including the funds matter.

Tohight as the resignation is further scrutunized the collateral issues are being emphasized much more aggressively but not a single broadcast has addressed her stated reason for her resignation. The members of this forum have also been distracted by these diversions.

So I ask myself and you...what's involved with the international decison that has our national press doing everything possible to distract from Healy's emphasis?

You are still lying and attacking the messengers.

You should use your wit and diligence for good instead of covering up theft from 911 donors.

And your pointing to the women in Afghanistan is improper.

They chose to be there. The victims of 911 did not.

Hope that clears this up for your slick legal mind.

""The tragedies in New York City, at the Pentagon and at the crash site in Pennsylvania represent an attack on America's spirit, our liberty and our national security. This is an unprecedented disaster, and we are providing unprecedented relief services," said Dr. Bernadine Healy, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. "Our generous American public and people from around the world have donated or pledged $375 million so far." "

On the red cross website she says $375m in either donations or pledges. They've already allocated $320m of it. That about matches, especially if you figure in 10% of the pledged money is yet to be collected (and that's probably low).

Yes, in between your inarticulate, incorrect and inaccurate posts. God have mercy on your soul for your callous attitude towards those young Christian American women.

From your link to Red Cross--

quote--" Preserving America's Spirit: The Liberty Fund

" We have created The Liberty Fund as a designated disaster relief fund separate and distinct from the domestic Disaster Relief Fund and the International Relief Fund. The Liberty Fund will support the immediate and emerging efforts of the American Red Cross to alleviate human suffering brought on by the attacks of September 11. All donations received since September 11, 2001 will be placed in this disaster relief fund."

This implies all the money would go to the Sept 11 attacks.

This presumes there was a way to segregate the funds for 9/11 from their regular donations? You cant just say anything donated after 9/11 is for 9/11 stuff. They have regular corporate and payroll donors.

Doesn't the Red Cross' site state that all donations received after the 11th will go toward 9/11 stuff? I thought that was what the post I've clipped above was about.

What did I lie about? Have you given anything to the red cross since 9/10/01?

I saw her being asked (pinned down, because she was evasive at first) on a program this morning (MSNBC OR CNBC)about only half the money COLLECTED being designated for the crash victims. She said that money would be required for anthrax victims and there would be other disasters.

I don't know that my point is important but the developing pattern of press coverage is obvious.

The problem with the current press empahsis is that the story would make a lot more sense if Healy resigned to cover the diversion of funds at her direction. Quite the opposite appears to be true.

It sure does. Very good catch. Now, thinking back through this discussion, have they contridicted themselves, or have I? Its too late for me to figure that out. :)

I never said they didn't do work like that overseas, got it? You implied that the 9-11 money was going to help those girls in Afghanistan. Let me refresh your memory...

To: Born in a Rage

Well, EXCUUUSSSE me but when we donated to the American Red Cross it was specifically to the September 11th relief effort; not for some international fund.

Call us cruel, but some of us don't have a problem that our money is going to help those young Christian college students who were arrested in Afghanistan and will probably be raped and killed by the taliban. Those girls are americans too.

VA could not care what you wrote, or what it said.

He is pathological liar who lies about what is posted,
and has bizarrely attempted to blame the stealing of the 911 funds
by the Red Cross Board on Israel.

I guess Diogensis would have trouble with his money going towards helping the anthrax victims? Like that mother and 7 month old child in NYC. That would be stealing his money if the red cross did that. Oh, but has Diogensis donated anything to the red cross since 9/10?

And my point is that international relief is very much a part of anything related to 9/11. . .and its only going to expand as the 9/11 war does. Open your other eye and you'll see twice as much.
