BERKELEY CITY COUNCIL CONDEMNS U.S. BOMBING OF AFGHANISTAN

The city council has approved a resolution honoring victims of terrorism but condemning the bombing of Afghanistan, which recently had prompted hundreds of e-mails and angry phone calls from around the nation challenging the city's patriotism.

The 5-4 decision Tuesday night came after much debate by students, residents and councilmembers. Councilwoman Dona Spring urged U.S. leaders to bring terrorists to justice through the legal system, rather than by violence.

Couldn't we carve out a small section of U.S. territory, and create a kind of reservation for people who think this way? On this resevation, the U.S. Constitution would not be in effect. And there would be no protection from the U.S. military.

Wow, what a brilliantly original thought - for Berkeley. Peoples' jaws must have dropped at the idea of condeming attackers of America, rather than just condemning America itself.

I bet Worthington gets voted out of office at the next election. Patriots are an endangered species out there.

Seems to me these folks ought to also condem their own municipal police force and go without any protection. Since there are probably very few gun owners in Berzerkley, it would not be long before they'd be screaming for help or leaving town.

Berkley is going along way to discredit its protests against Vietnam, isn't it? I once heard somewhere that there was a millionaire in the Berkley area who funded the first Vietnam protesters.
