Hey no-meat-eaters-on-Fridays-during-Lent!
There are a ton of us Catholic Freepers out there, this is our little thread in the big big world. This is just my way of attempting to get to know people just like me.
A few links I enjoy:
www.vatican.va - the Holiest Web Site on Earth
www.scripturecatholic.com - providing Scripture references to support the teachings of the faith
And lastly, I post a joke I once heard on Free Republic:
What is the difference between a Catholic and a Protestant? Catholics wave to each other in the liqour store.

You are, of course, correct... chalk it up to a late night and very un-careful editing of my post! The good sisters would not be proud...

I was raised Roman Catholic and have never wanted to go far from my roots. I too have been dismayed by all the anti-Catholic rhetoric...I am not good at verbalizing how and why I believe it is important to pay honor to Our Lady and the saints....this is something the Anglican Catholic church does...one can think of the ACC as the "high church" episcopalian...very traditional...the only difference is that the ACC does not recognize the Pope as its final authority...it is in alignment with much of Vatican I, but organizes itself much like the Episcopalian and/or Methodist do, with a council of elders and bishops and archbishops.
Anyway, I digress. I wish I had gone to Catholic school, but we were unable to afford it. Despite this deficiency, I think I turned out *okay*...and largely due to my Catholic upbrining. I am currently trying to do the same for my daughter...she is attending a parochial school...and so far, I think she has been the happiest I have seen her since she started schooling. She doesn't like all the 'strict' rules, but I keep telling her there is a reason for it.
Just throwing in my penny's worth into a community I am happy to count myself a part of...

What's the Rule of Silence in a Unitarian monastery?
No talking, unless what you have to say is really, really interesting.
To: Aquinasfan
Aquinasfan: wasn't that you in the debate yesterday with RN7Mommy (whats'ername)? All I got out of all the scriptural quotations is that some "Christian" Freepers don't believe we Catholics are Christians. I found some of the rhetoric deeply offensive and troubling as folks referred snidely to us "Romans." What is your take, please?

Who is she that comes forth as the morning rising, fair as the moon,
bright as the sun, terrible as an army set in battle array?
O Mary conceived without sin.
Pray for us who have recourse to thee.

Oh, I forgot...so many GREAT GREAT posts of links about Catholicism...would like to throw in my own...I am currently an Associate in the Anglican Order of Benedictines, but I am sure that many here would be interested in teh Roman Catholic community of the Benedictines. This monastic order goes WAAAAAAY back and is theorized to be the origins of the Knights Templar who fought in the Crusades....would that be a jolly thing to rise up in the face of the Islamic fanatics?!?!?

Though patent pinged me, I am a fundie/Bible Christian, not a Catholic. I'm just so pro-life I asked him to add me to his RC bump list. :)

I apologize for my state in advanceChecking in from the Wisconsin.
I asked my wife 'what we going to have for dinner tonight', she said 'I'm not going to tell you, I don't want you complaining before I even start cooking'.

Wow! That's got to be a tough place to be Roman Catholic. One of the priests who put me on the road to Rome was eventually stationed in Salt Lake City. That's another bad place to be a committed Catholic, eh?

Perpetual adoration brings wonderful things. I'm still often amazed by the changes it brings to the parish, much less the area.

So, converts, why did you join the Church? Three Easters ago, I was just sitting quietly in the back of the Baptist Church, minding my own business, when God laid it on me to become Catholic. I drug my heels a couple of months, but then started attending Mass & signed up for RCIA that fall. That class was a disaster, but I found another & was received into the church two Easters ago.

Salt Lake City. That's another bad place to be a committed Catholic, eh? I once met a priest who did missionary work in SLC. He and a few people would go door-to-door and try to convert the Mormons. He told me that they were easy to convert.
I visited once and though it is pretty, I would not enjoy living in the Mormon state. Nice people, weird temple ceremony.
