Aquinasfan: wasn't that you in the debate yesterday with RN7Mommy (whats'ername)? All I got out of all the scriptural quotations is that some "Christian" Freepers don't believe we Catholics are Christians. I found some of the rhetoric deeply offensive and troubling as folks referred snidely to us "Romans." What is your take, please?

Yes. That was me. She's an ex-Catholic. Ex-Catholics in general can be pretty tough. Sometimes there's a pschological rather than a theological reason for becoming an ex-Catholic. She claims to have theological objections, so I take her at her word.

I try to be as polite as possible, even when the rhetoric gets turned up. We can say as much by our manners as by our arguments.

Also, I always remember that I'm talking to the lurkers as much as the person I'm debating. So they may have the same questions, but are afraid to voice them. I don't mind dealing with pointed questions head-on. No one's going to bring up these issues in polite company, so I regard the web as an invaluable evangelical tool.
