Attempting to engage him in debate plays into his hands. He is here to create dissent and to disrupt the Free Republic. That is his pattern and the reason his posting privileges have been banned.

I've always wondered about Karen Bixman. She would have been a natural here. In fact, at one time, I thought Clinton's A Liar might have been Karen until I heard her real name (Connie Hair) on the Rush Limbaugh Show. I did not know she had been hospitalized. As for other old-timers, I recently corresponded with Debra Brown. I know Missy Kelly still lurks here but she doesn't post very often. Then we had people like Judith Pedgrift and Larry Barleen. Maybe they are haunting the DU.

Yeah, I remember. It was about this time of year in '98..............and I, in a sense, "fell in love". Here was a site with like-minded people, intelligent people, good writers, smart-asses (ok, I'll include myself in that category...).............just overall good folks. FR is still FR, and those who whine about "oh my.....it's changed......it's........sob, sniff.........just not the same" are on drugs. I DON'T miss the all-too-long, self-indulgent essays passing for "Deep Philosophical Thought". We had our share of those, and most were rehashes of Civics 101. No, FR is as vibrant as it was then, only BLESSEDLY more crowded.

Well, this just ain't fair. The legendary Deb..........a babe?? Not that I doubt that or ever had any other mental image........just never, well......anyway, we demand pictures. Fair's fair. I STILL insist you have the sharpest tongue on FR, and THAT'S a compliment. Tough competition here. :)

I could be mistaken (it's happened before on occasion), but I don't think he was talking about threads discussing religion generally. I think he was talking about the more divisive religious theory-type threads, which are often quite ugly, especially for those of us who are Catholic or Orthodox.
It is possible that one's view of such threads is dependant on whose ox is being gored.

How very well I remember that. I lurked quite a while before I joined and posted. I mean QUITE a while spent lurking. I too, found FR through Drudge. Once a Freeper....ALWAYS a Freeper!
