The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

Hi mitch, good to see another poster here. Jump in any time on any subject or start your own. BTW, why did this discussion look "painful" to you?

OK Havoc, please change to another analogy, that one is nasty (I know, it was intentional). That must be why mitch called the discussion painful.

why does it look painfull? LOL #1402 points it out better than I could.

I know Havoc is trying to make a point...but good grief...holy crap?

We have the Creator of the universe giving us the "power to become the sons of God" and we have to argue over magic.

I'm not sure the mouths of the nay-sayers would be stopped should they happen on this christian discussion.

I know I sound like I'm whining but you get my drift I hope.

I thought I made a pretty big statement in my post...ie:I believe 1 John 5:13 ends the debate of salvation by grace/works.

Wouldn't that be some discussion? 8-)

God bless and thanks for the welcome.

Amen Brother! And I praise God for your soul. God is good to those of us who know him. Join the conversation. But be prepared for anything :)

You would think so, but you don't know the RC's very well. The won't even admit that their works are works. LOL

Protestants. I could use a little help with one of your brothers:

I think my response to Iowegian takes care of the few relevant points you make. The rest of your post was obviously intended to be inflamatory. Be assured, you were successfull. I will not repeat it even in italics for purposes of reply.

I will not lower other Protestants to your level by drawing any sort of comparison between your behavior and their beliefs. Do you have any concept of the reverence due to your Lord? I don't post with the care the XeniaSt normally does, but your language is beyond the pale.

What is your purpose on these threads? Do you suppose that you are a Christian trying to save people who profess a belief in Christ but are lacking in some regard? How does this type of language when refering directly to Christ achieve that goal. The Gospel can be an offense to those who have not ears to hear... You, sir are just offensive.

JHavard - I hope this doesn't hurt my "grade" on the whole anger thing. This isn't an "acceptable" post just cause this guy's on your side of the Tiber is it?

LOL.

You'll find that sometimes people here don't respond to more than the blatently obvious. I sat, I thought, I prayed. And while my cat scraped at the litter, an answer was provided by way of example. What can I say, I was near tears writing it but it just flowed out so quickly (no pun intended) that I knew I was onto something. Their eyes are misplaced and their minds fail to understand even the word. So a brick between the eyes provides a cure through the painfully obvious (not to mention gross). And it's a brick that will not harm them. It may leave a little prideful lump; but, Jesus is a good cure for pride :)

Mitch. My apologies for the unfortunate timing of you joining this thread. You are welcome here.

We frequently get a little bent out of shape here (some core beliefs are often questioned, so it is to be expected) and I have acted childishly in the past (or so says my friend JHavard). I believe that the recent post was an abberation for this group (and I pray, for Havoc as well).

I'm not on your "team", but I welcome you to the group.

How so? It only acknowledges you problem with attachments to objects, it doesn't refute them. As for Havoc's post, two of use have already objected. BTW, the apostle Paul used some rather strong and direct language himself in the NT, did he not?

LOL... the man is "inspired" by cat crap! This explains alot. I will now forever wonder whether you are interpreting scripture with the aid of the Holy Spirit, or interpreting feline entrails.

Notice how I easily worked fecal matter into the conversation when refering to an animal but managed to avoid it when refering to the Savior of the universe? It's a subtle trick, but you may be capable of it too? Give it a try some time. If you really see the Lord in His handiwork...act like it.

My apologies... I don't type as fast as you posted. I just saw a brother step over the line but knew that he may not see me as a brother (or cousin or whatever translation we are using today). I wouldn't accept that language from anyone who thought he might preach the Gospel, I hoped you wouldn't either. (I wouldn't accept in a "locker room" banter... this board is filed with those who are seeking answers about our Christian faith... I'm sensitive to the image we display)

Offensive. We'll see what's offensive here. Tell me, in all seriousness - do you think the refuse of the Lord would be holy? If it is not, then why? It may not be a pretty argument, and it wasn't intended to be pretty, but you want to play with the word. Let's go at it. For the sake of the argument, Fecal matter is now a *widget*. Why is the widget to be held in less esteem than the bones people kiss, the garments people kiss, The huge brass and glass vile of dried food coloring and water that turns into hydrated blood trick that people kiss,.... What makes the widgett less holy? Why is it not to be reveared and kept as an holy item - a relic for people to be 'healed' by.

For those of you with a weak constitution, I apologize. The intent was not to gross anyone out. It was to make a vivid and harsh point. I merely applied to the *widget* the same type of practices with some elaboration, that 'blessed' things meet with at the hands of catholics. I'll not repeat the argument. But, can any honestly think of anything even close that makes the point?

That's a good point, I was offended by that and not one RC objected to it on the forum that I recall (it was probably done by freepmail), though I think SD did apologize for it later himself if I'm not mistaken.

Cannot allow your #650 go without response.

First, like all RCs you call people names when you have no facts. Anabaptists (literally: "re-baptizers") were derisively called that by Roman Catholics(sic) because they, the anabaptists, refused to accept the heresy of infant baptism practiced some then by RCs and a lot, much later. So, "heretics" more properly describes those that subscribe to this heresy - primarily RCs.

The "crime" of the early Baptists, the Christians of the First Century church of God of the Scripture, was they accepted the Scriptures (then written) as the sole authority for doctrine, faith and morals, unlike those apostate Baptists, that gradually developed into the sect called the Catholic(sic) church.

You state YOUR church "stamped out" these "heretics." Be honest, by "stamping out", you really mean tortured and murdered them - good "christians" that YOUR church claim to be - for their "crime" of disagreeing with YOUR church and the authority of its leaders (not yet "popes").

Independent Baptists of today are the literal descendants of these early Christians YOUR church(sic) is so proud of terrorizing!

There are none so blind as they who will not see, or so deaf that will not hear!
