"The Madison School Board barred schools on Monday from using the Pledge of Allegiance as a way to comply with a new state law that requires a daily patriotism dose.""Others criticized the pledge for promoting nationalism and militarism."
We need to start playing a major round of "Spot The Loony" here.
Are you kidding this should just be the start! Only these jerks could confuse Patriotism with Fascism.
They are obviously questioning the basis of the new state law by half _ssing it.

Madison -- should that surprise anyone? As Nikita Khruschchev once said after visiting Madison, "Get me the #@%$ out of here, there are too many Commies!"
To: JeanS
WI is a hotbed of communist activists and has been so for decades.

Good Lord, will this crap EVER end? I hope the kids dissent and say it anyway!

Thanks for the post JeanS. Bump!

Maybe the public schools in Madison would like to forego the acceptance of federal money, if they don't care to pledge allegiance to the United States. Maybe they would like to secede, as well.
It looks as though the inmates are now in charge of the assylum in Madison. Isn't that the place where the armory building was blown up, killing someone who was working inside, during the Viet Nam war? One of the guys who did it was still on the FBI's most wanted list until Clinton had him removed. I can't think of his name, but he was suspected of being the UNABomber.

I seem to recall on an earlier thread that you don't agree with enforced recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. Perhaps this article would be more in line with your thinking?

There are some real sick puppies loose in this country; what is it that attracts them all to Madison?

Thanks for the ping, Jean. This is totally abusrd. But considering it is Madison, should we be surprised? Madison is to the midwest what Berkley and San Fransciso are to the left coast. This is the same city that the "Freedom from Religion" wackos are from.

The 3-2 board vote came after several parents and teachers complained that the pledge, which contains the line "one nation, under God," is a religious oath that doesn't belong in public schools. Others criticized the pledge for promoting nationalism and militarism. Boy, Red Skelton was a very prescient individual.
How many is "several"? Why is the apple cart always upset for a few individuals?

My Name,
Thanks for emailing. Actually, Madison's school board WILL play the national anthem each day, but without the lyrics. They felt this was a compromise that wouldn't offend those who don't like the words.
Technically, they are not in violation of the law because the law gave an either/or choice (pledge or anthem every day). However, not allowing children to say the pledge at all could be another story. I know our legal counsel is aware of this situation. I will let you know if anything develops.
