Fox News Reports from the White House that Ari Fleischer has issued a statement calling Israeli Prime Minister Shron's remarks of yesterday "unacceptable."

Shron said that he will not allow Israel to be sold down the riner in the name of appeasment, as Czechoslovakia was at the beginning of World War II.

Good morning, disruptor.

Put it back in your pants. We know who our friends are, and we won't betray them.

Your comments to the good Doctor are a personal attack and shouldn't be written on this forum. If you have a rebuttal, make it. It appears that you are better at insults than convincing others with facts. Don't act like a Palestinian or an Israeli.

Actually, considering the billions we give them, this is not the time for Israel to get into a pissing match with the US.

I don't think standing up for your citizens who are getting blown to bits daily is getting into a pissing match with the US ... they live with this day to day, we got our first taste of what they put up with. It's time we get off the trianing wheels and show we have the mocky that Sharon has and do something. So far we showing that we want "everyone to be happy" first .... bull .... get on with the business.

The US is the brunt of all Arab hatred SIMPLY because we support Israel, then they decide to roll in the tanks after agreeing to peace.

If you truly believe this, then you are a moron.

The Arabs hate us because our culture is diametrically opposed to theirs. Israel merely represents our culture. In addition, Israel is an afront to Islamic hegmony. But, if you want to delude yourself otherwise, I doubt I can say anything to change your mind.

I don't understand why Israel does not cut off all financial aid from us. Every penny. Then do whatever they feel they have to do. They are certainly strong enough, economically and militarily, to do that. Sharon should stand strong and declare the end of this humiliating relationship as of right now. IMHO, the Knesset should pass a law to accept financial support from private funds only.

Nothing in this world is eternal.

Israel is our friend. They are an outpost of civilization in essentially hostile territory.

We would be sending a terrible message to the many enemies of civilization if we withdrew our support from Israel.

No, they weren't insults.

This is an insult: "you're an idiot."

Somebody should knock Sharon's jaw loose and tell him who's been keeping his country from being overrun.

Your maturity and mindset are evident. If you want to delude yourself, I doubt there is anything I can say to change your mind. However, you are deluding yourself.

Would you challenge this statement, then?:

The U.S. is the strongest supporter of Israel.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong here, ok?

We have a straight-talking, honest, good man as a President. People second-guessing him here (not you, but others) make me wonder if I am reading a Democrat's web site. I support the President's statements and policies, as I believe they are made in the interests of our country. President Bush needs our support, not our division.

Amen to that !!

Let us hope this is nothing more than a tempest in the FR teapot. Since little has been overtly done out there (that we know of anyway,) and a lot has been said, it's still best to wait'n'see, me thinks.

Watch their hands, not their mouths!

Israel is irrelevant and is in no position to make demands! It is a 2nd world socialist country. It's military is only significant when compared to Jordan and Arafat's police. Without massive US foreign aid Israel would disappear.

I have to admit I'm less than thrilled about the way the Palestinian statehood thing is going down. Not because I don't think they should have one (conditioned by the standard qualifiers about accepting Israel's right to exist, etc.), but the timing could not be worse, inviting the Palestinian-in-the-street (as well as the Muslim world at large) to conclude that terrorism pays. I'm not saying that I blame Bush for this timing; a lot of things are just not in is control. But it's infuriatingly inconvenient. Would it be too much to ask that the price of Palestinian statehood is the immediate exile of Arafat and his lieutenants? Surely they have banked enough by now to be able to retire in comfort. There should certainly be a price to pay.

If we are going to screw our real friends to pacify our questionable fair weather friends, it will be to our everlasting sorrow.

I agree, we should never screw over the Brits, never ever!!!!

"there are some people who wanted to go on a bombing run over Syria, Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt"

Remember Bush saying, "we were declaring war on terrorists and/or those who support and harbor them". That is and has been Palestine, Iran, Syria or Iraq. So now they can be our partners??

"Everything he has said clearly points to a moderate middle eastern state, "

But everything the Palestinians have don have been extreme and terrorist. There has never been anything moderate about the Palestinians. So now he is considering supporting them while condemning Israel??

I don't think you are living in the real world. You better get your sh*t together too

No, I'm not going to challenge that statement because it is true. However, that's not the same thing as "keeping their country from being overrun", is it?

We support Israel financially and sometimes diplomatically. Israel supports us by giving up tangible assets for the promise of peace. But, I seriously believe we have done so for our own interests. For example, during the Gulf War, they allowed their cities to be bombed without retaliating, just because we asked them to. No doubt, Pres. Bush senior exerted some financial pressure on the Israelis to keep his Arab coalition together, and the Israelis acted in their own financial interests. Well, we all know how well that turned out. Saddam is still in power and was most probably involved with the slaughter of our fellow citizens. Have we learned from our mistakes? Doesn't look like it to me.

The thing about our support is, if we didn't give it the Arabs would try to overrun the country and slaughter the Jews. I know that some people on this thread would rejoice at that prospect. However, if I were Sharon, the instant the US cut the aid, I would launch my nukes in a pre-emptive strike. Because I know that if I didn't, the Arabs would do whatever they could to slaughter the Jews and the world would sit by and let it happen. Am I wrong?

Both countries need to recognize that they share common beliefs - something you cannot say about the Arabs.

I would not want to be sold down the riner either. :-)

I am pretty much pissed at the State Department. Arafat has been given ligitimacy by Klinton. He has done NOTHING to merit seriousness in talking about a Palestinian state. He harbors terorrists. He is repsonsbile for arresting them or kicking them out of his lands, but has noen NOTHING. Arafat should not be rewarded. He should be told "You are on side of the US, or the side of the terrorists".

"Afterword, the Germans invaded, and the Czech were still not fully prepared, despite the large number of Skoda tanks they had, which were superior to the Mark I, and Mark II tanks that the Germans were fielding at the time. "

The Germans never invaded Czechoslovakia. First they took the Sudetenland legally. Then there was an independence movement in Slovakia. Germany recognized Slovakia and Slovakia became allied with Germany. This was perfectly legal.

Then Germany applied some diplomatic pressure on Czechoslovakia's government to agree to become a protectorate. The Czech government agreed to this and signed away Czechoslovakia's independence. We can argue about whether the German pressuring was immoral or not but the fact remains that it was all legal and did not involve any invasion.

Israel will not dictate how America's war is fought, nor in which order terrorist enemies will be anniliated

You have a very limited view of the events of 9/11. This isn't just America's war. The fate of the free world and western civilization is involved. Many are missing the seriousness of the situation and are trying to talk our sworn enemies into cooperation. It isn't going to happen. GW's words were strong but I have doubts as to if he has the will or the courage to do the difficult and dirty work. Washington is too willing to sacrifice the lives of thousands of our own civilians rather than sully our image with people who hate our guts anyway. I'm becoming increasingly impatient with all the coalition building and "let's get a consenus" crap. We need to do whatever it takes to send a significant lasting statement to all those who attack us or seek to destroy our country and culture.
