[history]
Even by her usual incendiary standards, Ann Coulter's response to the terrorist attacks was something of a jaw-dropper.
"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity," the conservative commentator declared in her column on National Review Online.
Those words created an uproar at the Web site, which refused to run a follow-up piece in which Coulter singled out what she called "swarthy males." She promptly began bad-mouthing National Review, which responded by axing her as a contributing editor.

I might've required an explanation for the "Christianize 'em" suggestion and an apology for the "swarthy" comment, but I think canning her was a mistake.

Asked for comment, National Review Online Editor Jonah Goldberg said: "We didn't feel we wanted to be associated with the comments expressed in those two columns. We got a lot of complaints from sponsors and a lot of complaints from readers left, right and center. We've decided for editorial reasons we think are sound that we're no longer going to run Ann Coulter's syndicated column." Uh-huh. Didn't Trixie's boy call for conquering Africa a few months ago? How is what Coulter said substantially different?

Ann was writing hours after the death of her good friend Barbara Olson. And what she said in both columns was basically true.

She said yesterday that National Review Editor Rich Lowry and his deputies "are just girly-boys." Does anyone have an e-mail address for Ann Coulter? I'd like to meet this feisty dame and teach her to play hockey.

On Maher's ABC show, Coulter accused National Review of having "censored" her by refusing to run the follow-up column. She said yesterday that National Review Editor Rich Lowry and his deputies "are just girly-boys." I love it! She is absolutely correct.

What a bunch of wimps at National Review.
I love you Ann. Will you marry me?

As idiotic as her column was, firing seems extreme. Especially under the circumstances. Of course, I don't know other details in her relationship with NROL.
To: JeanS
"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity," forced conversion? sheesh. Back to the dark ages.
To: JeanS
ANOTHER reason to not read National Review.
To: Plummz
I might suggest to all that National Review has done more for the Coservative cause than Ann Coulter will ever be able to do.

National Review never struck me as the kind of place for people who are not staid, middle-aged men. I guess Jonah "Girly-Boy" Goldberg is probably the next to go.
"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity," the conservative commentator declared in her column on National Review Online.Convert them? How? By force? Somehow I doubt they would've welcomed us with open arms.

It sounds awfully tongue in cheek to me. I don't see what the uproar is all about.
