Even by her usual incendiary standards, Ann Coulter's response to the terrorist attacks was something of a jaw-dropper.
"We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity," the conservative commentator declared in her column on National Review Online.
Those words created an uproar at the Web site, which refused to run a follow-up piece in which Coulter singled out what she called "swarthy males." She promptly began bad-mouthing National Review, which responded by axing her as a contributing editor.

Well, really not that hard.
Corps, 10 rounds, shell ICM-DP in effect, time on target in 5 minutes from now...Mark!"
Not really that difficult, actually!
When it is an opinionated conservative woman, lefty!
But it's a much different NR now. Soon after JFK's assassination, a network news type took a verbal swipe at the magazine by suggesting that the assassination was probably to be expected in a nation where a national magazine could "come out for" hanging Earl Warren. (A recent NR cartoon had portrayed Warren on the gallows.) The NR response written by Wm. F. Buckley, Jr., mocking this absurdly literal interpretation of the cartoon included the line: "Damn the torpedoes? What had the torpedoes ever done to him?". But that was in 1964, when Wm. F. Buckley, Jr. was a much younger and much funner man.
You merely confirm the truth of what Paul wrote in 1st Corinthians 1:18. "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God."
There are some here who love to take any opportunity to ridicule Christians and their beliefs. Whether or not you want to call that "bashing" is irrelevant to me (personally I think the word "bashing" is used much too loosely for ANY criticism of various groups). At any rate, regardless of how much you or others ridicule Christians and our beliefs, I pray that as God continues to reveal Himself and His Truth to you, it will find its way to your heart and mind and lead you to turn to Him before it is too late.
Kindest regards.
We may have bigger problems than a bunch of terrorists.
Why be so timid? Let your hair down and don't hold back, Redleg. LOL.
That'll convert 'em. That'll convert 'em Real Good.
I like your style, Hooah!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-02-01 AT 02:11 AM (ET) Amazing--I have read that piece five times and am still in total disbelief. No doubt, Little Orphan Annie will blame this on Bill Clinton too. Please, God. I'm praying right now that she finds herself unemployable and winds up homeless. It couldn't happen to a more deserving wench! I've always questioned her judgement when it came out that she was instrumental in trapping Clinton in the Monica scandal.
So for 2 years, the country was focussed on cigars, crooked organs, etc. while the real scandals (which led up to the September 11 disaster) like speeding up the immigration process, making citizens out of felons, the China connection, etc. were pushed into the background.
If we want to convert Mainstream Americans to conservatism, let's face it. They WON'T listen to Ann Coulter.
Quick grammar lesson regarding pronouns and antecedents: When you see pronouns like "their" and "them" used, you must read the previous words to find to whom these pronouns refer. This sentence is right after a sentence about Ann's revulsion at the sight of "Palestinians" and other arabs dancing in the streets and celebrating the death of our citizens. So "their" and "them" refer to the people dancing in the streets, i.e. invade the countries of the people dancing in the streets, kill the leaders of the people dancing in the streets, and convert the people dancing in the streets to Christianity. (Now, as any Christian would understand, the ONLY way anyone can be converted to Christianity is by faith which comes by hearing the Word of God preached in love. A conversion to Christianity would change the hearts of the people who were dancing in the streets so that they would not celebrate the death of innocent men, women, and children.)
Dissapointed that that she will not be writing for NR. Am also dissapointed by some of the comments that both Ann and Jonah made. But I'll still read both Ann and NR/NRO. And while I do that, both Ann and Jonah need to grow up.
"Invade their countries". Is this not a good idea? Is this not about to happen? So, Ann was not fired for saying the obvious.
"Kill their leaders". Is this not a good idea? Is this not about to happen? Bring me the head of Osama Bin Laden is the real-time movie about to be played out on your television. So, Ann was not fired for saying the obvious.
"Convert them to Christianity". Aha! This is politically incorrect, and this is why Ann was canned.
Now, relish the irony.
And, like many Roman Catholics, the idea of "converting them to Christianity" means converting Muslims to Protestantism.
Bill Buckley jr. does NOT want "Protestant" converts in the Muslim lands.
Ann touched the holy nerve of American politically correctness.
The whole story isn't here, obviously, but if they asked her to make some changes, and her response was to go on Bill Maher's show and complain that they are spineless, well, she sealed her own fate.
Everyone has a right to express their own views. That does not translate into a right to have someone else publish them.
She knows that.
