ASD'ers Brady Campaign lay off 14 people, complain that WTC attacks hurt fundraising

Losing Control at Handgun Control? While one airliner after another slashes their payrolls, the best-known anti-gun lobby in Washington laid off 14 people Tuesday.

Officials at the Brady Campaign, formerly known as Handgun Control, confirmed to HOH yesterday that they cut nearly 20 percent of their staff this week.

"It's a difficult time around here," said spokesman Brendan Daly. "Like a lot of other nonprofit organizations, we've been hit by the downturn in the economy."

Daly said the group has also been affected by the terrorism in America, which has led to overflow contributions to relief efforts. "The terrorist attacks have rightly focused people on helping the victims, but that has a direct impact on our fundraising."

The fact that gun control has not been at the top of the Congressional agenda has also not helped the group founded by Jim and Sarah Brady after Mr. Brady nearly died from a gunshot wound during the 1981 assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan. Among their triumphs was getting the Brady bill signed into law, which resulted in a five-day waiting period on handgun purchases.

"They've known some of these people for a very long time," Daly said of the couple. "But I think they're holding up."

It's been 16 days since the terrorist attack, and they're collapsing because it caused a drop in their fundraising?

Either they're lying, or they are the worst money managers on the contintent.

And oh, by the way, gun purchases (as evidenced by the number of background checks conducted) are UP 40% in California since the WTC attacks. Do you think THAT has anything to do with lack of contributions to the Brady Bunch? Hmmmmmmm.

From what I've seen, people are too busy buying guns to send the Bradys any money.

Tough times for the anti-self-defense crowd. 'Twould appear that most folks seem to prefer arming themselves to singing "kumbaya" at the terrorists. And in the process they're being reminded about forms and waiting periods and all that other stuff involved with the purchase of an object these people have been bleating is "unregulated."

and still not a word on the result of their disgusting 'sensible gun laws' reality experiment: over 6,000 dead.

will we see those in their tallies, balancing out firearm related deaths? hardly. they'll go bankrupt first, and it can't happen soon enough.

we need to get aggressive and hold those fearfully stupid pigs accountable for what they've done in fostering an atmosphere of disarmament and utter defenselessness. they are all killers via their stupidity, and i will not forget it.

thanks for the post.

They can console themselves with the knowledge that they helped keep dangerous handguns out of the hands of airline pilots.

I'd say this man is in serious denial. The tide has turned against their cause, and I hope it stays that way.

SB52 and AB35 are sitting on the desk of Red Davis. He has until midnight Sunday to sign them. Those bills impose handgun licensing and require a license before a handgun can be purchased. I suspect the arrival of those bills on the governor's desk is yet another wakeup call to Californians to buy handguns before the license requirement is imposed. The WTC event happened just before the idiots in the legislature broke the bills loose from committees. It's pretty clear what is important to the gun grabbers in the legislature.

We went to the big Dallas Market Hall show last weekend. I have never seen as many people at a gun show, ever. There were people rolling two-wheelers of ammo out the door. We only bought 1050 rounds of 9mm MAK and, as usual, 1K .45 bullets and large pistol primers.

Haven't heard of any layoffs at the NRA. Hey, maybe the problem wasn't your name after all. ESAD, Brady Kampf.

They weren't hit by a "downturn in the economy." They were hit by a "downturn in American thinking." Box-cutters, indeed. If there had been one person in civilian clothes or a pilot on each of those planes who had a concealed .45, 7,000 American lives would have been saved.

All but the very dumbest Americans can do the math on that. Now even the people who read the National Enquirer and never heard of the research of Dr. John Lott of Yale University, know that guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens save lives, rather than cost lives.

Look for many more states to enact concealed-carry laws. When New York State enacts one, you will know that the backbone of Handgun Control, Inc., and the so-called Million Moms March have been broken.

"Like a lot of other nonprofit organizations, we've been hit by the downturn in the economy."

That should read, "Like a lot of other leftist organizations, we've been hit square in the face by reality."
