Swaziland bans sex for five years

Swaziland has banned single young women from having sex for five years in a bid to fight the spread of Aids.

A chastity rite has been revived and maidens will also be expected not to shake hands or wear pants.

Any man who contravenes Umchwasho, the maidens' chastity rule also called Flower of the Nation, will be fined one cow, or £150.

King Mswati III announced the ruling during national celebrations for his 33rd birthday party. Virgins would be required to wear blue and black "do not touch me" tassels. Women already in relationships and those who are older than 19 would be expected to wear red with black tassels, reports The Guardian, Swaziland.

The ban has met with a 'mixed response' by men, according to local reports.

"We have just held our annual reed dance ceremony where Umchwasho was revived," the King told his audience in Nhlangano.

"This tradition plays a pivotal role in ensuring that our young girls preserve their virginity."

"We sincerely hope that this tradition will assist us in fighting the HIV/AIDS pandemic that is wiping our youth away."

He added that the country's chronic unemployment rate also led to idle people occupying themselves with sex.

What's five years among friends? I think I might risk that 'one cow' fine however.

Africa will eventually come to terms with the AIDS plague. Here in America we need to reinstitute the norm of virginity before lifelong monogamous marriage.

Bet at a fine of 1 cow per indiscretion, the old Swaziland government will have the African beef market cornered in no time.

One moment, I need to go out back and count my cows.

I'm sure criminalizing sex will work wonders in lowering their birth rate and AIDS infection rate...

Rather than a ban I thought it was a plea. Either way it is the only chance these people have. The elites would rather see them die than admit dangerous sex practices are the cause of this horrific epidemic.

Yes! Perhaps they could also produce some "do touch me" tassels for some of the non-virgins.

Leave it to politicians to get it all wrong!

Idle people occupying themselves with sex led to the country's high unemployment rate.

The "chic" language to be learned among segments of American Society in the 1960's. "Virginity = the flower of the nation...."

Wearing pants would sure have kept the Oval Office sink clean and the interns doing the jobs they were there for.

Swaziland has banned single young women from having sex for five years.

I hate to think what the men will be doing with each other and their cows during that time.
