Expanding on naval blockade, US military to create task force to restrict Iranian land commerce

After a months-long naval blockade on Iran, the US military is setting up a task force to bolster Washington's efforts to restrict Tehran's movement of advanced weapons systems and other sanctioned material across its land borders and the Caspian Sea, according to a US Central Command (CENTCOM) announcement on Saturday.

Task Force Iron Gate, as it will be called, will be based in Tampa, Florida, and will coordinate with other US government agencies. Beyond the movement of weapons, it will also focus on dual-use and illegal revenue streams.

"Strengthening CENTCOM’s collaboration with US interagency partners will further constrain Iran’s ability to finance terrorism, rebuild weapons factories, and replenish its military," Admiral Brad Cooper, the commander of Central Command, said in a statement.

Without announcing it to the world...haven't they heard of OPSEC?

I was on record in March that if they going to bother with a war with Iran at all, leaving roads and rail lines in place from Afghanistan, Pakistan, or the Caspian was a mistake.

Of course they’d already made one in retiring those four mine sweepers in Bahrain the prior year.

What I said when we started. I don’t think Pres. Trump wanted to anger the minority populations, but cut off all roads and ports from the north and west.

Maybe those minority populations will accept gold for cross-border transit, but not rials. Plus, the aid from the Rooskies and Chicoms will be slowed.

Anything to hobble the central government.

The Iranians probably won’t respond to it.

Iran, located in the heart of the Middle East, boasts an expansive territory that spans vast distances and borders several countries, making it a key geopolitical player in the region. With a total land area of approximately 1,648,195 square kilometers, Iran ranks as the 17th largest country in the world, offering a diverse landscape that ranges from rugged mountains and arid deserts to fertile plains and coastal regions. Bordering Iraq to the west, Turkey to the northwest, Armenia and Azerbaijan to the north, Turkmenistan to the northeast, Afghanistan and Pakistan to the east, and the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman to the south, Iran shares extensive borders with its neighboring nations, totaling over 5,000 kilometers in length.

Right. Pollster guest on Larry Kudlow radio show today said people were still angry and suspicious over the Covid lockdown days and “just this short time to break the Covid trend”. Then they heard Trump say the Iran War would be over “soon” and “shortly” as the Iranians were begging to negotiate and they were desperate. People got fed up with “ceasefire” “may bomb again” “may not bomb again” and so on. So voted NO on Trump allies by voting for socialists and Dems.

Kudlow said “This should have ended in April at the latest” and “Trump was indecisive” but he blamed JD Vance for giving bad advice such as let’s negotiate because the Iranians are in bad and desperate trouble and ready to surrender.

I remember when the Dems cut off some war funding for an earlier Mideast war but the Dem leader said “With the exception of medical care for our troops” and so on. Today they won’t even do that, I’m guessing.

So much like VP Humphrey and alpha male LBJ in Vietnam days.
Just a little more escalation. Humphrey had to sort of support the LBJ plans but desperately wanted his own plans to win the election.

Up to now Trump’s problem has been indecision and his acceptance of ceasefire when he should have bombed a lot more in April.

Possible now: Iran regime stays in power. Gets help from China, Russia and North Korea to get finished nuclear missiles, not just Iranian program aid. Troops from US die.
Entire war viewed by 80% of US as a waste and a loss.

I have worried a long time that like Woodrow Wilson after he lost Senate support for the new League of Nations, had a stroke, Donald Trump could lose his health and life. Many said Wilson just couldn’t stand the loss and his body attacked him in his emotional distress (controversial).

Meanwhile the back door to Iran, the Caspian Sea ports are wide open and taking trade from China and everywhere else. Highways in from the border in the east are also wide open. Why have those harbors not been mined and bridges along the highways bombed? Trump and/or his military advisors must be the most inept ever and have cost this country dearly now.
