About three-quarters of voters said the Iran war was a crucial factor in which candidate they supported in the 2026 midterm elections, according to an NBC exit poll.
Among the 74% of voters who said the Iran war was a crucial factor, 62% voted Democrat and 35% voted Republican. ...
In a CBS exit poll, most voters said the U.S. made the wrong decision to take that military action in Iran, including about a quarter of Republicans.

Did the Trump administration and/or Israel do everything reasonably possible in prosecuting the war against Iran?
Would complete (or near-complete) support among Republican/conservative/America First influencers (who were against the war) somehow have conjured up the ability for the administration and/or Israel to have done a better job in prosecuting the war?
It seems implausible that if everyone was on one board in support of the war that it would have increased the efficacy of the war prosecution against Iran if it was, from the beginning, an unwinnable war in the context of how it was fought and in the context of how Iran responded.
If yes on the first question, then perhaps nothing more could be or have been expected from the administration pertaining to how the war was prosecuted.
2/2
Following a ceasefire in April 2026. The administration maintained that joint U.S.-Israeli strikes “met and exceeded all military objectives” to neutralize specific threats.
If so, then “mission accomplished”.
The push back against that stance: the campaign was severely flawed and triggered a dramatic spike in domestic fuel prices, intensified economic strain on American households, and ultimately failed to resolve regional instabilities.
Unanimous or near complete alignment from Republicans, conservatives, and “America First” influencers would likely not have changed the strategic or material realities of the administration’s prosecution of the war given that while a unified front from conservative media might have temporarily shielded the administration from intra-party fighting, media messaging from them could not alter the tangible economic results of the war, such as soaring global oil prices and resulting inflation.
As to the prosecution of the war itself, from a purely predictive standpoint, the ultimate outcome of the war itself, at the very moment the war against Iran was launched, was most likely strategically unknowable as economic and human reactions (and perhaps the way Iran would fight back) could not be known, and the ongoing flurry of bombings was followed by an asymmetrical reaction from Iran.
Media alignment from Tucker Carlson, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and America First would not not have halted or altered the resulting anger from Americans as it would not override the economic realities of increased gas prices, food prices, diesel shortages; they cannot dictate the global price of crude oil or prevent a 60% to 70% surge in prices.
It was not the war; it was what the war caused: high gas prices, high food prices, high home costs, etc. So, as a result, I ask the question: just for your own responses, Is Trump winning the war? Did he win?
“74% of voters who said the Iran war was a crucial factor”
Absolutely right!! The 50,000 dead Americans in that Iranian ground war turned the tables! The million person anti-war protest in DC this summer was the final nail in Trump’s coffin.
Maybe this was just Donald Trump deciding on his own that he’d rather be a Likud official than an American president. America voters — including large numbers of Republicans who voted for Democrats this week — got the message loud and clear.
Voters were not the ones backing dems, ballots were.
You’re getting nasty old man. Disgusting perverted comments.
“It was not the war; it was what the war caused: high gas prices, high food prices, high home costs, etc. So, as a result, I ask the question: just for your own responses, Is Trump winning the war? Did he win?” That’s my take on it. I don’t know if we’ve won or not.
Pushing a primary challenge against a clown like Thomas Massie on behalf of foreign interests may go down as a colossal blunder of historic magnitude.
George HW Bush: “Read My Lips!”
Donald Trump: “No Foreign Wars!”
The war caused none of that.
You may not like the answer, but I don’t believe the oil companies are on your side. The prices were high, even before American warships were sent to Hormuz. I believe that this was the reason for Trump’s insistence on low energy prices for his first term (he got, really, nothing else but judicial appointments).
It looks like unwilling oil companies are also slow to deliver. This process may take time. I am amazed that Trump is willing to dedicate so much to it.
You made your bed …. Now go sleep in it. I’m not the one who took a dump under the pillow.
<< most voters said the U.S. made the wrong decision to take that military action >>
No, the admin. made the wrong decision in not finishing what they started. Americans love winners, not failed MOU negotiators.
Trump himself was bragging at his state of the union address in February about how low gas prices had gotten. I’ll never understand why he flushed all that down the toilet with his legacy less than a week later.
The young/libertarian part of the Trump coalition felt betrayed as they feel affordability is more important than a neutered Iran. They were also highly susceptible to the manufactured Jew hate. The Jeb! Republicans stayed home to teach us a lesson for rejecting their old guard, managed decline candidates. The majority of the electorate is godless or unintelligent or both so rather than vote with wisdom they just vote their anger. That last part I did not expect but here we are.
Nobody in this administration is capable of defining what “finishing what they started” even means.
I think that is just an excuse that people responding to the poll used, a lazy answer. While it was probably a factor, I don’t think as big as the article is trying to suggest.
The voters didn’t “back the Democrats”. The right decided not to show up because Trump’s agenda wasn’t ever, in any way, whatsoever, passed by the Republicans. The House passed a record low and the Senate was worse. The number of judges approved was horrifically low. The Republicans did literally ZERO to deserve to be voted back in. And many good ones were swept up in the disgust.
Apparently, conservatives were more disgusted with the Republican field than scared to death of the Democrat zanies. The Democrats lied in all the right ways and hours after the polls closed, they were brutally open about they didn’t mean it.
I’m almost envisioning the Babylon Bee doing an article about how the DSA and other Dems gathered together to admit they had their fingers crossed when they promised the sky and moon.
The fact that people didn’t show up in droves shows how bad the extremist propaganda was, the daily reminders of the foreign influenced Kalshi and Polymarket saying that it was going to be a blowout. The 24/7 “news” coverage screaming that Trump’s visage had turned into the most horrific person in history and that Hitler was a piker.
Seriously, folks. The damage is done. Time to pick up, get ready for 2028 and be ready for anything. Keep your head on a swivel. The Democrats think they’re empowered to be brutal and violent. And it’s coming. They will dramatically overplay their hands. Just wait for it.
