Likely voters who decided which candidate to support only recently in seven key Senate races favor Republicans despite an overall Democratic advantage, according to a new poll released Sunday night.
“There are still some undecided voters, and voters who decided only in the last month favored Republicans by a nine-point margin,” according to the New York Times’s reporting of its last poll conducted alongside Siena University that will be released before Tuesday’s midterm elections.
The survey found that the Democratic candidates running in Michigan, Texas, Maine, Ohio, and Kansas are ahead of their Republican counterparts by 11, 7, 6, 5, and 5 percentage points, respectively. The Democratic nominee in Alaska, Mary Peltola, is ahead by 2 percentage points, while the race in Iowa is effectively tied, according to the survey’s respondents. The poll was conducted from Oct. 23 through Nov. 1 among 5,708 voters.
Over the course of the last month, Democratic candidates have continued to knock President Donald Trump’s handling of the conflict in Iran and the economy, while Republicans have framed Democrats as being out of touch on social issues and supportive of socialism. The new data were released two days before the midterm elections and after a week marked by many developments in crucial races across the country. Despite the recent trend favoring Republicans among previously undecided voters in the survey, all seven Democratic candidates are still viewed more favorably by independents.
In the Alaska Senate race, a New York Times report released on Wednesday outlined allegations that operatives for Peltola’s campaign recruited a candidate whose name resembles that of Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) to peel votes away from the Republican nominee, setting off a legal fight with the Trump administration. Peltola’s campaign has denied such involvement.

Huge news.
This had better be a lot of manure, or we as a country are in deep trouble come January 2027.
my hope is that democrats were simply more excited to votes out of anger and rushed to the polls to vote and were happy to participate in polls for the same reason.
And that as this article suggests... maybe just maybe Republicans might finally arrive to the polls on election day just in time.
I hope I am right
No Republican with a lick of sense responds to a poll. Polls are worse than meaningless.
Five states, 5700 voters, that is about 1150 voters from each state. Thank God that polls of 1250 people don’t actually count or we wouldn’t need elections. We would also have representation in America that would be exactly like California.
Guess we’ll find out tomorrow
I’ll bet most of the Rs that are just now voting made up their minds decades ago.
“Franchise” by Isaac Asimov.
Published in If magazine in August 1955, the story features Norman Muller, an ordinary clerk from Bloomington, Indiana, who is selected by the supercomputer Multivac to be the sole voter in the 2008 U.S. presidential election. Multivac uses Norman’s answers to a series of questions to determine the election outcome, representing the concept of a “sample of size one” for the entire nation.
I’ll tell ya this. If the GOP pulls this out...and especially if Texas stays red....we will truly be able to say....don’t believe any polls ever.
I know we are “almost” there as it is.
But just damn. If the blue wave doesn’t happen, it will still be a big shocking.
With so many undecided voters out there, this is a big boost for Republicans!
By “late deciders” they must mean “People who vote on election day” and who ignore polls.
Yah, but my gas prices are high and I want to vote for the communists who will fix it or something. /s
I know some people need to rah rah rah until the very end.
But the House is lost, and the Senate probably too.
Dark days ahead.
Franchise has come to mind many times over this cycle, especially as we hear how accurate the prediction markets have been. If we come up with the right question set we can just run the battery through the betting markets and let the Multivac determine the result of each race and question.
Alot of people lost a lot of money in 2024 betting on Harris to win because they heard repeatedly on the news she was the favorite to win.
That’s why we need Asimov’s Multivac.
