Donald Trump is secretly asking close advisers about whether Pete Hegseth and General Dan Caine should be fired after the midterms, even as he weighs restarting the bombing of Iran.
The president has been quizzing allies on the performance of his defense secretary and his Joint Chiefs chairman, the two men who assured him the war would be wrapped up well before the midterms, according to the Atlantic. ***
As Republicans face the real possibility of losing the House and Senate, Trump has concluded the Iran war would be partly to blame and trained his attention on the advisers who promised a quick and decisive fight.
‘Hegseth is good at telling the president what he wants to hear,’ one of the outside advisers said, and others close to Trump believe the defense secretary has painted the war in rosy terms to keep him happy.
***Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu had a blunt phone call on Saturday about the state of talks with Iran and how fast to go back to war***
Netanyahu is pushing the president to strike Iran immediately after Tuesday’s midterms, while Trump wants to let the negotiations run, a strategy that worries the Israeli prime minister. *** The Daily Mail revealed last week that Hegseth's aggressive leadership style has prompted senior officials to keep dossiers stashed for a looming Democratic congressional probe into his tenure.
Pentagon sources told the Daily Mail they and their colleagues have spent much of the last 22 months compiling emails, memos and meeting notes.
The files detail times the defense secretary and his inner circle allegedly ignored strategic and legal advice, berated the experts who gave it, withheld information from Congress and the public, and threatened the careers of subordinates who either challenged his decisions or struck him as too woke, fat, queer or disloyal.

As for Iran, I opined on April 1, that Trump will redefine victory as something far less than unconditional surrender which he initially demanded. He then will declare victory and “triumphantly” walk away. Again, time will tell.
War cannot be won with half-hearted measures, guided, in part, by the price of oil.
Thank you, Tokyo Rose. That’ll do.
Daily Mail, the home of intelligence service propaganda narratives...
So, I guess my question is, has there any been verifiable information that required Iran to be attacked this year? I’m not being a smart-aleck, I’d just like to know.
If this is a secret that Trump is trying to do , how does the Daily Mail know? I call Bull shizer!
While time will tell, I curently assess this as pure BS.
At the very least, Iran was very vulnerable in January. The lower level security services, police and military began to desert even before the attacks by Israel and the U.S. began.
The only thing that saved the IRGC at the time was hiring mercenaries from Pakistan and Iraq to control the streets and eliminate the troublesome protestors.
“This way, if it works out, I'm going to take the credit. If it doesn't work out, I'm blaming JD”.
Well of course it didn't work out. But so far - no one has been thrown under the bus. And Hegseth as well as Vance is "too big to fail".
It would be a mistake for Trump to fire Pete.
The Mail has become untethered to reality. Trump has driven them crazy.
Not really, unless you take Trump’s word for it. (falsus in uno, falsus in omnibus):
“Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.” Trump, June 21, 2025.
“Monumental Damage was done to all Nuclear sites in Iran, as shown by satellite images. Obliteration is an accurate term!” Trump, June 25, 2025.
But Trump, flanked by NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, said that Iran’s nuclear ambitions were set back “decades.”
“I don’t think they’ll ever do it again. … I think they’ve had it,” Trump said. “I mean, they just went through hell. I think they’ve had it. The last thing they want to do is enrich.” Trump, June 25, 2025, at the NATO Summit, the Hague
I am quite sure that Trump asks his advisors all the time to give him their opinion on how the cabinet it doing. Another dumb article....ASking means you’re preparing to knife the guy in the back....
He's draped this Iran fiasco around their necks, and there may be hell to pay for it if there are severe consequences for it.
Intelligence parties in US and EU definitively said Iran was just weeks from an ICBM with a nuke — capable of blackmailing most of Europe.
If your neighbor is pouring gasoline along the foundation of your house you do not wait to find out if he knows how to light a fire.
The usual suspects. Anonymous close advisers. Unnamed sources close to the situation. Reports. All the hearsay that’s fit to line a birdcage with.
I love Hegseth, and I love Bongino. I am not comfortable with how tight both of them still are with Fox. I get why they are, but... 😖
If Trump’s plot to knife Hegseth is “Secret”, then just how does this EU rag know about it?
My best guess is this is all wishful thinking and propaganda.
You really will believe just about anything.
i see the paid soviet/chicom/democrat trolls are still attacking Hegseth with scrofulous bullshit ... i thought they had switched to exclusively attacking J.D. Vance with scrofulous bullshit ... i was wrong: paid soviet/chicom/democrat trolls are attacking BOTH with scrofulous bullshit ...
You failed yet again at reading comprehension. I literally wrote, “Time will tell if this article is based on facts or wishful thinking by the journalist.”
Unfortunately, there is no cure for a lack of gray matter. So all is forgiven.
I’m awarding you 10 bonus points for using the word “scrofulous.”
