Shares of Wendy’s jumped 15% at the opening bell Wednesday after noted investor Nelson Peltz made an offer to buy the struggling burger chain.
Wendy’s shares are down 25% in the past year following a years-long decline. The chain, founded in 1969 by Dave Thomas and named after his daughter, is known for its square burgers and Frosty desserts. But same-store sales, or sales at restaurants open at least a year, have declined for more than two years. Those sales fell during the first two quarters of 2026.
Peltz’s Trian Fund Management and several partners are offering Wendy’s $7.35 per share in cash, or a premium of nearly 19% over the stock’s closing price on Tuesday.

Great, another restaurant that is just part of some larger venture capital portfolio.
I bet Wendy's ceases to exist in 5 years, following an abrupt decline in quality.
Wendy’s was once a great place to eat. The juice from the burgers ran down your arm and onto your fries.
But that had all changed.
People don’t want to eat their dry as cardboard burgers.................
MAYBE THEY CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE $20 AN HOUR “SERVERS” ACTUALLY WORK.
I know what you mean. I do not eat much fast food. But my cheat day was always Wendy’s. It sucks now.
They ruined Whataburger, here in Texas.
We have a local burger place here that still serves those juicy types of burgers. No inside seating, drive-thru only and the line is always down the street............
I always enjoyed their chili on road trips. No overeating.
Nelson Peltz buying out Wendy’s? Where have I heard of this before?

In Ohio
MCDs I can’t eat anymore the burgers do something to my stomach, I think it’s filler, but who knows. I can still do breakfast.
Burger King/Wendys - I can stomach, but they aren’t as good as they used to be.
Steak & Shake and Shake Shack are ok - but depends on location.
Dairy Queen I’ve found to be very good and still has good value, good service and is clean, at least my location.
Current favorite is 5 Guys - good volume, fries are tasty. a bit on the expensive side though.
(Any other Midwesterners remember Burger Chef? may have been a localized Hoosier thing growing up)
I haven’t eaten at Wendys in years but at one time it was the best fast food joint. Now I can’t think of any reason to go there.
Wendy's
Its gotten too expensive. $6 for a 4 ounce patty?
We still get Wendy’s Chili in the winter. Their place is just a mile from the house. We used to have 3 Wendy’s in town, but now only one. All 4 of our Burger Kings closed last year. ........
I never liked Whimpys boiled burgers. However, it seems most fastfood has slimmed down their burgers to an 8th inch thick so that all you can taste are the veggies and condiment sauce; even as they double or triple the price for a meal.
It’s all gone to hell in a handbasket.
I had Wendy’s burgers probably for the first time in a year just two nights ago and you’re exactly right. They were DRY.
If you think Wendy’s burgers are bad, try McDonalds. Their burgers look like they’ve been wadded up in the glove compartment of a car for a few days.
Yes and they cannot see why their business is failing. People will pay good money for good food.
Wendy’s apparently forgot that rule...............
