MILWAUKEE, WI — Milwaukee Archbishop Jeffrey Grob apologized Sunday after video circulated on social media showing him and other bishops praying with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Oct. 22.
Grob said he was invited in mid-September to join a group of 12 bishops for discussions about matters important to the Catholic Church, including human dignity and immigration enforcement. He said he had not been invited to an earlier gathering arranged by the Heritage Foundation in June.
The bishops were told the October meeting would be private and that several Catholic members of the Cabinet might attend, Grob said.
After a 90-minute discussion with White House domestic policy staff and advisers, the bishops were taken to the Oval Office to meet Trump. Grob alleged that photos and videos of the meeting were taken without the bishops’ consent.
After the video circulated, he said he received messages expressing concern that he had inadvertently taken part in a political event less than two weeks before a national election.
The meeting was not an endorsement of Trump, his policies or his party, according to Grob.
“I feel a heavy sadness, not only over the pain I caused, but also for the fact that something so sacred to a group of religious leaders, prayer to our Heavenly Father, would be manipulated in that way,” Grob said.
“We came in good faith to try to work for the betterment of our fellow human beings, to ease their suffering, to build up the common good, and to pray with a president, not to pose for a political photo opportunity to benefit the few,” he added.
Trump has prayed with religious leaders in the Oval Office before. Reuters reported a video released March 5 showed him praying with a group of pastors.
Spineless.
I’ve never heard of Jeffrey Grob, but he sounds like a true, spineless, post-modern goober
How such men become Bishops is beyond my understanding
Archbishop Jeffrey Grob apologizes for praying with Trump. He might be an exalted member of the Church, but he evidently has never read II Timothy 2.
Paula White-Cain prays with Trump, and never apologizes.
Who is the better Christian? (Hint: that’s not an easy question to answer.)
RCINC is big mad at this administration for shutting down the USAID money spigot which flowed into Catholic Charities which were laundered to favored progressive NGOs. FOR RCINC always about the money

How dumb is he?
Everybody and their uncle knows.......
when you are in the WH, photos will be taken whether you like it or not.
There is zero reason for anyone to be upset about this. As Christians, we are called to pray even for our enemies. Those upset by it are not Christians.
So, he is apologizing to baby-killers who sexually corrupt and exploit those children who make it out of the womb?
It has been said the the floor of Hell is paved with the skulls of corrupt bishops.
I’m sorry. I just don’t think a man of TRUE faith should ever apologize for praying....no matter what the circumstances or for who might get upset.
Grob isn’t much of a Christian, is he?
More cowardly bishops. That’s what we’ve come to expect from the bishops. They seem to fear Democrats and their media more than they fear God.
“They seem to fear Democrats and their media more than they fear God.”
Which seems weird. The ‘dirt’ the Socialist Democrats most likely have on the Bishops isn’t going to sit well with God in the end, either!
You can choose Good or you can choose Evil. You can’t choose both. ;)
Nothing is more embarrassing to some Catholic bishops than to be caught on camera praying.
As a Christian, I find it offensive that Grob feels he needs to apologize for praying with anyone.
Look at the state where he’s from and then you can see how he became a weasel to spit on us citizens. Have nothing to do with him. He can move to Iran or China for all we care.
