Cruise's naked attempt to win an Oscar backfires in spectacular fashion
Tom Cruise wants an Oscar very, very badly. He’s been terrific in serious dramas and blockbusters alike, and you can’t blame him for wanting that golden statuette.
Along comes “Digger,” which offers a one-two punch for Oscar consideration. The film casts Cruise in an over-the-top role that dramatically alters his appearance.
Check!
The narrative is all about Climate Change, a message that speaks to Hollywood’s progressive heart.
Double-check!
And it all backfires in spectacular fashion. Put this one in the Louvre, a portrait of ego and ambition in a death cage match against Storytelling 101.
Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, an obscenely rich oil tycoon who cares for his ancient cat the moment he wakes up. The poor cat is all but dead, but Digger refuses to believe it.
It’s outrageous and funny, suggesting he cares more about a cat than actual humans. Get it? He’s a monster.

At some point they'll give him an honorary award and that will be it.

He may kill some of the goodwill he’d built up with conservatives via movies such as Top Gun Maverick. He kind of got political in the ‘90s and then backed off (he pretty much said Paul Newman pulled him to the left). Of course, bringing Ann “abortion is a mercy” Hathaway into the Days of Thunder sequel may be the bigger damage since Digger is far less mainstream.
Heck,I’d give him an Oscar for his Les Grossman character.

I was really getting into the Colin Farrell neo-noir detective series, "Sugar." But in the final episode of the second season, the viewer learns the entire series is a shill for MMGW propaganda.

I think the last good movie I saw was the second blade runner movie. Mostly I’m very happy to boycott Hollywood
I’ve seen the previews in the theater a couple of times.
As one writer put it, “With Tom Cruise’s portrayal of “Digger”, a little goes a long way”.
That character was cloying and annoying, I kept hoping somebody would punch him in the jaw and break it, so that he couldn’t talk for a long while. It seemed that Cruise was portraying his exaggerated vision of a prototype.
I have zee-row interest in seeing it when it premieres.

Hated the second Blade Runner. The first was a standalone masterpiece (Final Cut).
And hey, whaddaya know, both of those movies were remarkably bad, too.
