Donald Trump’s questioning of Britain’s ability to defend the Falkland Islands against a renewed Argentine invasion is “completely incoherent”, senior Conservative Tom Tugendhat has said, as tensions over the South Atlantic territory intensify.
Tugendhat criticised what he described as the US president’s “erratic” intervention after Trump suggested British forces might be reluctant to travel “that far” to defend the islands.
Speaking during a visit to Ireland, Trump questioned whether Britain would be prepared to mount another military operation in the South Atlantic, referring to a journey that could take “weeks by boat”.
Tugendhat told Sky News that Trump’s comments were “completely incoherent, but it’s also, as we know, it’s erratic”.
The Conservative MP pointed to the overwhelming support among Falkland Islanders for remaining British and accused Argentina of seeking to seize the territory.
"What the Argentine government is trying to do is attempt a colonial takeover.
“It absolutely has never been part of Argentina. So what they’re trying to do is attempt colonial occupation.”
Trump, meanwhile, suggested Britain had domestic problems that could distract it from defending the islands.
“I’m not sure they’re doing that. They have a little problem with immigration.
“They have a little problem with energy, and then have some other problems they have to take care of.”
He added: “I’m sure I’ll be called into that potential disaster, but if they do, I’ll probably be able to settle it out.”

Time to get the Falklands out of Brit hands before the Muslims take over England.
The Brit’s should draft all the muslims and send them to the Falklands on garbage scows.
I remember Sen. Jesse Helms, R-NC, who was right on about everything favored the Maldivas going to Argentina.
UK can’t float a boat that far.
Wankers.
Interesting!
30s-40s in winter, 40s-50s in summer...
How friggin boring! What the heck good are they!??
It’s worse. They are just grassy hills with lots of wind.
> UK can’t float a boat that far. <
They really can’t. Last I read, the Royal Navy had only one truly operational seagoing warship, the HMS Duncan. Of their two new supercarriers, the UK has crew and aircraft enough for maybe one.
And there’s a good chance of that carrier breaking down long before it reached the Falklands.
I believe there’s 1500 British military on the islands now. If I were advising the British prime minister, I’d advise him to triple that force. Hire an ocean liner if necessary. Do it now.
Pointless needling.
So really at this point, it sure sounds like Argentina could invade the Falklands and the British govt really couldn’t do much about it?
Yikes, that’s quite a change from 1982.
> They are just grassy hills with lots of wind. <
And lots of oil under the nearby waters. That adds another dimension to all the nationalistic huffing and puffing.

From the article:
“The dispute has particular significance for the UK-US relationship. Washington is formally neutral on the question of Falklands sovereignty, but provided support to Britain during the 1982 war after Argentina invaded the islands.”
________
Formally neutral. Ronald Reagan served as the President of the United States during the conflict, providing logistical and intelligence support to the British.
A lot has changed since 1982. We now know as a populace that the UK has been sabotaging our national interests ever since our independence. Who’d-a-thunk-it? President Trump is realigning the world power — America First!
President Trump is only setting the stage, there is an awareness that he has spawned that the world is yet to fully comprehend. He’s well ahead of the game. I feel sorry for the people who want what we had prior to President Trump.
It was the Cold War. They were our allies so it made sense to provide support to the Brits.
That was 44 years ago.
When it comes to the Brits no end of ‘’needling’’ is enough.
They’re masters at it. Pay back is fair play.
The only “fighting” that Britain is able to do right now, is against its own citizens for opposing the intentional forced invasion
>>>The Brit’s should draft all the muslims and send them to the Falklands on garbage scows.
That wouldn’t do anything even if they were sent to the Moon they’d still hate Jews and Christians!
The island has never been part of Argentina and the people there don’t want to be part of Argentina
Trump is probably right that England would probably not be able to really defend it but really I doubt Argies are going to really attempt a military invasion of the island
Maybe it just plays well with the people in Argentina
