Seems more like the “Waterslide of Death” some days.
I’ve noticed that diesel is running almost $2/gallon more than gasoline around here.
50-60 years ago, when I was a kid, I seem to remember diesel was about 1/3 less than the price of gasoline. Am I remembering that right? If so, shouldn’t that ratio be the same today? The process for making gas and diesel is the same isn’t it?
I still have 2 2005 VW TDI S/Ws bought when gas went above $2/gal. and Diesel was priced below gasoline.
I only keep one active each year.
The current active vehicle has 15 gal. in the tank, and I have 2, 5 gal. jugs of ~ $5/gal Diesel on hand.
I drive them <300 mi./mo. @ ~50 mpg.
So, I’m good for a few months....
The Feds made the oil companies take most of the Sulfur out of Diesel, so then Diesel became more expensive than gasoline.
I’m very unclear on why Diesel is more than $1 higher than gas now.

Depends on the refinery and the input crude...
Diesel requires less processing than gasoline. It should be cheaper.
It’s mostly used for agriculture and big trucks. Diesel at $6-7/gal means that everything we buy will cost more. Lots more.
Diesel fuel should be at about $2.50/gal. Maybe $3.50/gal.
Every farmer and rancher and truck driver paying six or seven dollars a gallon MUST pass those prices on.

Operating envelopes depending on inputs and outputs.
But you obviously know that.
