President Trump on Wednesday told the crowd at the Republican National Committee’s first midterm convention in Dallas not to boo the absent Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), telling them that “John is working hard.” Trump mentioned Thune’s name after he said Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) “will go down as the greatest Speaker of the House in the history of our country.” He then added that Thune was “here” before asking where he was, prompting boos from the audience.
The president added that Senate Republicans will in general have “great, great success.” Thune and Trump have been at odds with each other as Thune has dismissed the chances of passing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act, Trump’s priority legislation. The bill would require a photo ID when casting a ballot and proof of citizenship in order to register to vote.
Trump pressed the GOP leader to keep the Senate in session earlier this summer to get the bill passed rather than let senators go for recess, but Thune declined. The president has also called for an end to the filibuster, which Thune has ruled out of consideration as he lacks the votes to do so. The South Dakota Republican has also expressed his worry over the GOP maintaining its majority in the upper chamber of Congress, telling Keloland News earlier this month that he’s a “realist” and that the Senate is “a competitive environment right now.”
Trump has not endorsed Thune for another term in the Senate and suggested, while selling his administration’s successes, that Republican voters are not happy with current leadership and that they think he isn’t getting the job done.”

Working hard for whom?
Okay, I’ll say it : “Thune is hardly working”.
Don’t think it is going to be necessary to endorse thune for another term as leader.
Nice work, if you can get it.
I guess this means he brought it up. Attendees needed to get it out and it was Trump’s way of letting him know he wasn’t invited.
Trump loves to use the carrot and the stick.
Trump must be getting dementia. Making obviously poor decisions to continually pause bombing in Iran when we were being extremely successful, ignoring the impacts of inflation on his voting block, and continuing to support Thune.
Hope his presidency doesn’t turn into another Reagan alzheiimers ending.
My washing machine is working hard ... and accomplishing more.
The booing reminded me of the jeers that Nicolas Ceaucescu got during his last speech to the Romanian people.
I take it Thune plans on living next to Strong behind the Forbidden City’s walls.
John is working hard to undercut Trumps agenda. He keeps the senate in session so the President of his own party can’t make recess appointments. Thune is the enemy.
I figured as much.
Thune has 3-4 really bad GOP senators that are not helping.
The Hill is ALWAYS Democrat Propaganda
to sow division against Republicans
They’ll use anything they can
I may not always agree with everything said
I just know how bad Obama and Biden were
It will be the same with any Democrat
