Canada and the European Union are working toward a wide-ranging relationship that will cover issues from trade to security to raw material exports. The alliance is meant to offset the increasing influence of the United States and China, Bloomberg reports.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the EU’s top executive, is set to announce plans for the increased partnership in Strasbourg, France on Sept. 16. Prime Minister Mark Carney will attend von der Leyen’s address, then will speak to European lawmakers the next day.
Canada looking for new friends
Carney has made a deeper relationship with the EU a top priority for his government, and is looking for everything short of a membership into the EU itself, an anonymous source told Bloomberg. Current talks, they say, are focused on defence, space exploration and scientific research, and Carney will consult provincial premiers as he goes along, the source said.
The move is in line with Carney’s speech at the World Economic Forum this year, seen by many experts as a rebuke of the United States. In that speech, Carney said the “rules-based international order” is dead, and called on an alliance of “middle powers” to offset the growing belligerence of the world’s superpowers, while taking care not to specifically mention the United States or China.

Canada is the EU’s Mini-me.......
Canada has always been more tied to Europe, they were a British Colony, they are just returning to their roots.
Carney is planning to destroy Canada then say the EU will save them if they join them
I’m guessing what’s next will break Canada of a few bad habits.
I think the German election signals the end of that plan.
They will be a colony of China.
That politician in Canada Chrystia Freeland keeps talking about China China China China but never says Communist China with ZERO FREEDOM
Most of Europes leaders are hated by their less silent majorities. Canadah will be making deals with despots. Who knows if the EU will even exist in five years. The times they are a changing.
Canada continues to be a Commonwealth Country. Nothing's changed except the propaganda from Buckingham Palace.
There is only a bunch of blah blah blah here - no substance.
Canada will never be able to replace the world’s largest consumer market which happens to be right on their doorstep.

Every pissant country in the world has a lower GDP than America. And Per Capita income.
I'm honestly not worried about trade pacts between Canada and the EU. Their economies amount to almost nothing in global trade terms.
I'm not sure of This source but it indicates that our poorest people are better off than the rest of the world. Even developed countries.
If EU invites Canada to join, that would be a good time to pull out of NATO.
