I know that I largely quit reading history articles written by the Smithsonian and PBS, because they are almost always dark and negative about American history.

Back in the 1980s and 1990s I was a Smithsonian member and read the magazine each month. I stopped when they became too liberal.

I recall a Smithsonian display about the Enola Gay back in the 90s. We were the bad guys.

The Smithsonian (((SHOULD BE)) American centric, and ethnocentric, as horrible these ideas sound to a modern American globalist white guilt ridden liberal.

—The Smithsonian is paid for by US tax payers.

—It is on US territory.

—It caters to US visitors.

—It caters to (((all))) Americans: right, left, male, female, old, young, black, white, Asian, Latino, hetero, homo, North, South, rich, poor. When you build in a social/political agenda you AUTOMATICALLY start excluding certain people (Making some into the villains and others into victims).

I EXPECT the German Museum in Berlin to be from the German perspective and I in fact want this if going their.

https://www.deutsches-museum.de/en/

I EXPECT the British Museum in London to have a UK perspective and I in fact want to see this if going there.

https://www.britishmuseum.org/

What makes someone take US tax dollars, on US soil, catering to a US audience think they should BELITTLE the culture, advancements, or shine a negative light on the history of these people?

Stay factual (that prevents bias), and if there is analysis or speculation, present it from an American centric perspective that gives equal credence to all views, because that's the WHOLE PURPOSE OF THIS MUSEUM.

If you're running a museum like the Smithsonian, picking sides or pushing ANY agenda other than telling about the American experience from the most neutral perspective possible and giving all sides equal weight where their are differing views, you're in the wrong position.

I disagree. Take slavery . As far as Us history goes it’s important but not overly so. I’d say 10% of history is racial . Emphasizing the issue of slavery to the point it distorts history is wrong.

Good...No matter how you cut it...slavery existed for a time...but it ended and WE ended it. A lot of states had already ended it well before the Civil War.

The system was universal...it took time. Was it right?? Not the question. The question was...how do we stop it??
