They need to add a *because of deportation asterisk.
This is good news so the market should sell of big time, right? (sarcasm, kind of).
I was talking to a destruction business owner. He tears down houses and also builds peers and does maintenance on structures in The Gulf of America. He’s in his late 70’s and still working every day. He has fifteen huge machines most of which require permission and planning to move. Also, three large construction barges. He has only three full time and elderly employees. He can’t keep younger people because of drug use, alcoholism and just general laziness. One of his elderly employees told me he had stop a “high as $ht” biker type from getting into a ten-ton crane. Practically every company in my small town has signs out that they’re hiring. I always ask about it when I can, and the usual answer is similar. They don’t want to work, or they’re high at work.
On a related topic. I live in a wooded neighborhood. I would have given away all my toys to have lived here while I was growing up. I know there are kids in the neighborhood. I find their spore and footprints...you know candy straws, wrappers and condoms on the way to where the bus picks them up. But I never see them outside. We’re raising kids who think life takes place on a screen.

I see this as a no-news report. Looking one layer down (which sectors are gaining, losing, and by how much) is a little more interesting.
Were the CNBC hacks crying when they reported this?

Imagine how high these numbers would be if just about ALL welfare was cut off.
Deportations are helping.
This is a major problem all across the country. Many young people smoke pot on a regular basis. Therefore, you do not want to put them into some type of higher risk job and your company be liable.
I started hearing this five to ten years ago from the sawmills I buy from in OR & WA. Just because marijuana and other drugs are legal in those states doesn’t mean they are okay working in a sawmill. Around very dangerous machinery.
Same story with truck drivers. Do you really want someone high driving a 80K# tractor trailer with someone’s product on the back ? Not to mention that tractor/trailer combination cost $225K.
Same story with HVAC contractors, electricians, etc.
Better than the Obama/Biden administrations when they would put out bogus jobs numbers and then correct them lower “unexpectedly” one to two quarters later.
