Disturbing details emerge after TCU receiver rushed to hospital in alleged locker room attack

TCU receiver Dozie Ezukanma was hospitalized for three days due to a brain bleed, a concussion and other injuries after then-teammate Jacob Fields allegedly assaulted him in the locker room, according to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by Fort Worth Star Telegram.

Fields, who was arrested Sunday, was allegedly not happy that Ezukanma was outplaying him in practice, which resulted in the alleged altercation.

The transfer from Louisiana Tech was dismissed from the team on Aug. 18, and was recently charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury after turning himself in.

Fields was released later Sunday from the Tarrant County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

The alleged incident occurred Aug. 13 as Ezukanma was sitting in the locker room while looking at his phone inside the Walsh Athletic Complex at the university around 1:20 p.m. when Fields walked up to him and punched him in the head, causing him to fall to the floor, a witness told police.

Fields then proceeded to kick Ezukanma in the back of the head.

Ezukanma reported to police that he lost consciousness after the alleged assault and only recalls being in the training room and asking teammates, “What just happened?”

“It was something that was certainly out of character for the team and the young man that was involved,” [head coach Sonny] Dykes said. “Look, you got 110 football players. I mean, things happen sometimes.”

Mandatory classes in impulse control at every level of our educational system might not be a bad idea. From kindergarten to college.

“Somebody did something,” eh coach?

Mandatory classes in impulse control

Not a very large audience is in need of it.

Lockeroom fights are not uncommon. But these guys are built like bears, so the are probably more serious than they used to be. And ‘roid rage is a thing.

How is someone not in jail after kicking someone directly in the head ... unless it was some true act of self-defense?!?!

Good Sportsmanship: (New def.) “If someone on your team is playing better than you are, you should punch him until he loses consciousness.”

The young Mr. Fields just lost his future football career, and will have to go out and look for real work.

Or until she loses consciousness. Boomer Esiason said Caitlin Clark should get out of the WNBA (and play in Europe) before it happens to her.

Not saying Boomer is right. Just reporting what he said.

Not mentioned in the New York Post story is the fact that after the San Antonio Express-News began reporting on this incident, the response by the university was to take away the newspaper’s credentials to cover TCU athletics. That’s the typical move by those in power who don’t like it when the media commits journalism.

Wide receivers can be high strung divas, but I don’t think that Cooper Kupp, Ladd McConkey, Adam Thielen, Wes Welker, Danny Amendola, Julian Edelman, Jordy Nelson, Wayne Chrebet, or Steve Largent would have sucker-punched and kicked a teammate over being outplayed in practice.

“It was something that was certainly out of character

If you do something, it is in your character.

Just like people who say, "This isn't who I am..." If you did it and no one put a gun to your head, it IS who you are.

Our job is to stop being who we are, and learn to be who our Lord is. And a place that still calls itself Christian should know that full well.

Lame statement from Coach Dykes. At the very least this was aggravated assault. He could have killed him; but yeah, things happen sometimes.

It wasn’t a fight. The perp blindsided him with a sucker punch and kick to the head

People who kick people in the head when they are unconscious may not be trying to kill them, but they also don’t care if they do.
