After three years of focused federal prosecution of armed drug dealers in downtown Portland, Oregon’s U.S. Attorney Scott E. Bradford announced Tuesday that law enforcement officers will now expand their efforts to target dealers operating in public housing and outside drug treatment clinics.
“We saw fentanyl dealers being arrested in the morning, being released in the afternoon and back out on the streets in the evening, dealing this death and poison to our community members,” he said.
Bradford described the multi-agency partnership as an “innovative solution” to the state’s fentanyl crisis.
“If you talk about a lot of street-level dealers being arrested and prosecuted federally, that doesn’t happen everywhere within the United States,” he said.
For the past three years, an FBI agent, a federal prosecutor and members of the Portland Police Bureau’s bike squad and Central Precinct’s Neighborhood Response Team have conducted late-night missions targeting downtown drug dealers.
During that time, more than 100 people have been charged with drug trafficking in the city’s downtown. Law enforcement has seized more than 220 pounds of fentanyl, 40 guns and $1.3 million in drug proceeds, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.
More than 80% of those charged were undocumented immigrants from Honduras and Mexico who face deportation after serving their sentences, the office said.

Just watched a Youtube arrest video of ONE PERP CAR carrying enough fentanyl to kill 16 million people. Sounds like a problem.

Will the woke judges and mayor and governor side with the perps and set up a law refusing law enforcement to arrest them? California is like an older brother to Oregon.
We busted a guy selling heroin at the methadone clinic in my precinct. He was hanging around the place out on the sidewalk maybe 50 yards away. The dumb sob let two white boys get right up next to him. From different directions. He just stood there.
Here’s a loophole. Remember AOC said shoplifters should not be arrested or held because people often do not have money to pay rent or buy food so need to steal bread to give to their families to keep from starving.
So cutting off the drug dealing revenue stream could put children’s lives at risk from starvation.

I hope the FBI is also looking into the judges who cut these criminals loose. Are such judges on the payroll of the drug gangs?
Reminds me of working with SFPD some years before I retired as an IT engineer. I was doing ride-alongs with a police lieutenant in San Francisco while testing experimental digital radio communications for police laptop computers. We parked in various neighborhoods at night to test reception. While parked in a bad neighborhood near public housing projects, we observed black gang members dealing drugs. They knew we were there, and waved to us while smiling, trading drugs for cash to people in cars stopping by. The lieutenant says nothing new, it is what it is.
