WASHINGTON — A purported deal between Iran and Oman to control the Strait of Hormuz and share revenue from fees is “not even close to done” and would be meaningless so long as President Trump’s blockade of Iran remains in effect, a US official told The Post.
A spokesman for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed Wednesday that the two nations had agreed to terms to control the shipping bottleneck — but The Post’s source said that ill-defined terms are still believed to lack full approval from Iran’s leadership.
“The deals don’t mean anything unless we approve it. It doesn’t matter what the two of them — Iran and Oman — do. There is no deal without Trump pulling the blockade,” the official said.

Oman is trying to use Iran as their bulldozer, to "get the most" out of this situation, assuming Oman is for real.
Oman wants 3% of the total shipping value, Iran 5% (split between the two of them).
Why not, if you can, and Iran does all the work for you?
This is a situation where just being at the right place and time, might make you some money if you're Oman.
They both create a pinch on Hormuz: https://www.google.com/maps/@25.8301477,55.9479135,9.67z?authuser=0&entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDgyNC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
If I were Oman, I wouldn't do it. And I'm not saying this because I'm American. We will likely cut the arms deals: https://www.state.gov/u-s-security-cooperation-with-oman We might even help Oman create a better democracy by giving Musandam Peninsula its independence, or maybe the UAE wants it?
Who knows, but Oman is playing with something that can hurt them in a really bad way.
I suspect, Oman might want something else and is simply using this as leverage. That would make more sense to me.

Next up, the Muslim countries of Malaysia and Indonesia will start collecting fees on ships transiting the Malaaca Strait.
This is the Middle East and they haggle like in their vegetable markets.
Everything is about asking double or even triple what you want, and letting yourself be negotiated down to the price you actually wanted.
After talking about family, blessing them, having tea, smiling, saying that your children will starve unless the other person pays twice what you in the back of your mind actually expect, you settle on a price.
Point being, these people are like that. These people can show Trump what the “art of the deal” really looks like.
—I have no patience for this.
—I find it deceptive.
—It is exploitive.
But that is how these people think.
I suspect, if we ever find out what deal is made with Oman behind the curtain, that this Iran agreement may have been leverage.
I do not think it’s a smart move for Oman long term to piss us off and to screw their neighbors over.
We agreed to this in the MOU, though the terms were not defined, it was the label that we’d been defeated. By all accounts they’re hurting. I don’t trust any deal with these people, but if there is one, their control of the Strait for them should be off the table. They didn’t have it before, and they shouldn’t get it now
The MOU expired on the 17th.
You hit the nail on the head.
We cannot allow this, period.
If we back down, what do you think others will do?
It’s not like the Suez or Panama canal. There you have a nation which has to pay to maintain infrastructure and it’s not a natural canal. You have a canal which needs dredged, locks maintained, pumps, ships getting stuck that need cleared etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C06Q4Mft0yQ
Besides, you can go around Africa or South America.
Iran is in violation of UN rules: https://www.un.org/depts/los/convention_agreements/texts/unclos/part3.htm
If you notice, the WORTHLESS UN has kept their mouth shut.
https://news.un.org/en/story/2026/07/1167923 That’s their position? “I’m not saying anyone is at fault, please play nice?” LOL
Yes, they are worthless and so are all their rules and agreements, etc.
Despite territorial boundaries oten being 3 miles or 12 miles or x miles from the shore, the only solution is that Hormmuz is international water.
It could be compared to passing between Spain and Morocco, or between 2 parts of Turkey, or even between Singapore and Indonesia.
But we learn today that our Navy is already running out of money, and our anti-missile and aircraft systems are critically low on weapons, with pipeline materials still months away.
Is it asking too much for the Gulf Oil states to build a navy for themselves?
When will Trump rename it The Strait of America?
Seems like a bad idea for Oman.
The George Strait would work.
“””It could be compared to passing between Spain and Morocco”””
Yes, the Muslim country of Morocco and the soon-to-be Muslim country of Spain are likewise thinking about charging a fee for ships going thru the Strait of Gibraltar.
LOL
These are cavemen you’re dealing with.
In Europe, we had the same crap, a long time ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/ArchitecturePorn/comments/1pp3dm4/the_marksburg_above_the_river_rhine_in_germany/#lightbox
Most of these castles were built to extort tolls from the vessels going by on the river below.
They would fling feces at the boats, sometimes have chains across the river, or shoot cannons at the ship below (the cannon later fundamentally changed how castles were built).
Soon you had castle every few miles: https://www.thetravelbuglife.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/uppermiddle-rhine-castle-map-791x1024.jpg
This of course made trade difficult, slow and expensive.
The people extorting these tolls are really just living off the productive people and befitting from geography, right place and time. But they are adding no real value in terms of labor or creativity.
The Prussians realized what sort of negative impact this has economically for Germany once they established an empire. This happened much later than most think: 1871.
It wasn’t until the Prussians came along where this ended: https://www.economist.com/finance-and-economics/2026/08/20/the-high-cost-of-phantom-tollbooths
Basically, you are dealing with the same crap today. Only, we are the ones STUCK trying to preserve some concept of a “world order” which most others benefiting from this do not want to pay for, or if they can benefit from their geography, even try to add to the problem.
Iran was probably smart by forcing this scope creep on the US: Hormuz. It makes things far more difficult for us since Oman can get in on the action also.
Time is on our side regards the sanctions and blockade, their effects. Time works against us keeping the support of the US public (extreme impatience and a MSM working against anything Trump does) and some semblance of political cohesiveness.
If you had the backing of the MSM and social media, then like with Ukraine, even after 4.5 years and $195 billion spent (5 times what Iran has cost to date), more than 240 KIA (mostly US mercenaries) vs. 18, no true US interest in terms of how this benefits the average American (in fact you can make the argument that this has made things more difficult for us in terms of security), you’d still have some of the public’s support because the “news” (if you want to call it that) would be selling this 24/7. Having the MSM and social media behind you is a big deal! Them (((HATING))) you as with Trump, is a big deal also.
Since everyone has been warned not to trade with Iran it sounds like Oman will get some heavy trade sanctions and maybe a little blockade action too? Going into economic partnership with Iran is probably not a very smart move for a tiny two bit country right now.
So I guess Trumps threat to bomb the s—t out of Oman was just another empty threat.
Now that deal “doesn’t matter”.
My point is this was an egregiously bad term, and we agreed to it. We should not agree to it again
When you talk to someone freely, and every word is recorded, if I played that back, do you know how many times I can show that you’re anything I want to describe you as “racist, nuts, extreme?”
Trump “speaks” to the people.
He doesn’t read merely off prompters.
For people that like him, it sounds sincere, real.
For people that dislike him, it provides a lot of ammunition.
IMHO, Trump is the non-poltical politician and a lot of people like that. Of course at this point, he’s a politician, and it’s more show than real even though being independently wealthy, older and with well defined ideas of his own, his own team of folks, he’s hard to buy or push in a corner. He’s got more “freedom of movement” than most, albeit this November will likely change things. That’s not saying he’s doing a bad job, Congress usually heads opposite of whatever is in the White House in the mid terms.
Trump’s appeal is plain folk, Apple pie, from the heart. If I want a polished speech that offends no one, covering all the elements, an A+ job in a college level Speech 101 class, get Bill Clinton on the stage. People had enough of that.
They also had enough of the “political correctness.”
Yes, I think Trump is more conservative than most Republicans that wrap themselves up in that cloak. But he’s also a master IMHO of how to force the media to talk about, or tell his side of the story.
What’s the true probability of us invading Denmark?
In the wise words words of Wayne Campbell: https://youtu.be/QOKociU8t_Q?is=fiFmtCWZbZxrvDzB
But he got the medias attention.
And guess what, Denmark is stationing more troops there, and they aren’t oriented our way! LOL
Trump has a long history in showbiz / the media: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_career_of_Donald_Trump
The problem with his style is that you feed those that don’t like you lots of ammunition.
Love it
