Iran’s supreme leader is under mounting pressure over the war — as the regime’s grip on the Strait of Hormuz weakens, cash finally starts to get tight and top political leaders publicly urge the Islamists in charge to find a way out of the conflict.
The latest phase of the conflict has seen more and more ships quietly slipping through Hormuz, with nearly 200 vessels sailing through the strait last week, according to data from the UK Maritime Trade Operations Center.
The flow represents a 400% spike in the last two weeks, with maritime analysts Kpler noting that the traffic finding safe passage — aided by US Navy escorts — effectively means Iran has lost partial control of the strait. And while more ships and oil are getting out, Iran’s own oil exports have dropped to near zero, under the renewed American blockade on its ports and President Trump’s “economic D-Day” measures.

The 400% increase in traffic is a asinine way to report this. It should be stated as shipping traffic is increasing daily but still well below pre-war traffic.
1 ship a day to 4 ships is a 400% increase... Sounds good but inaccurate as hell.

Here’s the part I know:
It’s fairly general knowledge (report as of Aug. 20) that 15–20 tankers have been moving through a southern channel near Oman each night, facilitating the transport of approximately 10 million barrels of oil daily. That represents about half normal volume.
Tankers are of course only a small portion of the usual traffic.
While you are at it though, note how many ships in each category (crude oil tankers, refined products tankers, LNG tankers, cargo ships, etc., went through.
If a goodly number of crude oil tankers are getting through, fuel prices would likely still be high due to refineries’ damage in the Middle East and especially in Russia. That would “fit” what we are seeing with prices. The Indians are pretty happy because they are now in the astonishing position of exporting refined products to Russia. Putin is the sort who’d rob his Mom to be able to pay up, and the Indians could care less.

I’m well aware of the shipping traffic in the straight. It’s all perspective on how things are written:

Optics for and against. I prefer reality... traffic is starting to move, a long ways to go but increasing.
Yeah bet they cut themselves again over it.
Some reports say 75% of pre-blockade oil is flowing thanks to this and reclaimed pipelines.
I desperately hope that this is true. I want to see someone capitulate so the war can end, our troops can come home, we can rebuild our weapons stores, we can stop blowing through money supporting the war effort and the global economy can recover.
However, there are reports that say these latest claims are not true. This Reuters article says that 13-16 vessels TOTAL are getting through (not just oil tankers). It says oil shipments through the straight is still down 90% from pre-war levels.
Again, I hope the administration is right and the independent experts are wrong....but how can anyone look back at the past 6 months and say that the things the administration has been saying are trustworthy and accurate?
They have gotten every single thing wrong.
This is news? Iran has been teetering on the brink of collapse for half a year, according to the Post.
The flipside of Baghdad Bob was the idea that we’d be greeted by Iraqis as liberators.
With Iran, we were told (by the Post and other media) that the Iranian people just needed a spark to set off a revolution against the mullahs. Would that it were so, but it wasn’t.
Other than our own MSM for the most part which essentially threw all their weight behind Iran, this regime has NOTHING. Literally, Iran's only tool that is somewhat effective is our own MSM which is declaring them the winner and "Trump" the loser daily. Their bias is absolutely astonishing.
However, at every turn, Iran is getting the door slammed shut in their face:
(1) Missiles and drones, we more or less shut them down by bombing warehouses, manufacturing, launchers (>90% reduction in fires) plus our air defense is 92-96% effective. I suspect Iran is trying to stockpile / scrape something together right now so they aren't left shooting two missiles that missed their targets as was the case a week ago with their big scary attack (sarc).
(2) They want to play their strongest hand and leverage Hormuz, and we slowly peel this away from them all while we implement a blockade which impacts them FAR more than Hormuz does us. Worse yet, that move accelerated the construction of larger more capable pipelines which will within a year or two render Iran's leverage ineffective.
(3) They want to punish their neighbors and fire missiles at everyone that supports us, and all they achieved was to make themselves a pariah, to get the other gulf states to unite against them.
This is the antithesis of Ukraine. There you had failure packaged as some great victory by our MSM - albeit that talk has cooled off. In Iran you have success sold as failure by our MSM.
The difference between these two is obvious. Democrat wars are good wars. Republican wars are bad wars. And there really isn't much more to it.
