Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has warned that the phenomenon of illegal weapons in Israel goes far beyond the criminal sphere and poses a security threat.
Speaking at a lecture on Thursday night, Bennett said that more than half a million illegal weapons are held by civilians, describing the situation as "a security threat of the highest order."
Bennett claimed that illegal weapons are being transferred to terrorists in Judea and Samaria and to organized crime families in Israel.
"This is an extremely dangerous ticking time bomb," he stressed.
According to Bennett, "A security threat should and may be dealt with using security tools," by defining weapons smuggling as an act of terrorism and deploying the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) to locate illegal weapons.
Bennett also proposed declaring a "closed security zone" in order to confiscate illegal weapons, thereby reducing violent crime....

What does a government do after it has confiscated all its subjects weapons?
Anything it wants to.
Bennett is a lefty, a socialist idiot who does not want the populace t9o be armed. After Oct 7th? There needs to be a huge increase of “illegal weapons.”
Put rifles behind every blade of grass.
Bennett wants Israelis to be one step closer to the historical ovens of Dachau.
F**k him.
Go after the so called illegal weapons trade.Interdict them and pass them out to Israeli settlers on the West Bank, along with tons of ammo.
If weapons in the hands of your citizens is considered a “security threat” then maybe you’ve got the whole security thing backwards.
There are legally-held guns, and a process to obtain them legally. If there are “illegal” guns, and the owners are otherwise law-abiding, mainstream them both with a change in the law.
1. After the Hamas attacks, every Israeli household needs to have a firearm (legal or not). It is imperative to have people in the household capable of defending the homestead, and that are armed with tools that enable them to defend the homestead. Many Israelis are trained as serving in the military is both an expectation and requirement. However, it is importsnt to also have the tools (firearms) to enable that training to work best.
2. The issue with firearm possession in Israel (legal AND illegal) is centered on who has the firearm (legal or illegal). If it is a good man protecting his family, then that is a legal firearm (or worst case, a ‘firearm that is unlikely to be used for criminal or terrorism purposes). That is a defensive firearm in my book. On the other hand, if it is owned by a thug or a terrorist, then even if it is ‘licensed’ somehow, it is a ‘criminal gun.’ Now, someone might say that owning an illegal firearm means the owner is a criminal. We can argue about that after the person ensures his family is safe.
3. We all know it is easier to go after (generally) law abiding citizens than criminals. The (generally) law abiding citizen will try to abide by the laws and stipulations and what nots, but the criminal IS A CRIMINAL. Now, imagine how it is with terrorists! Someone who is hellbent on killing a Jew and considers it a religious duty! Do they really expect Terrorist Abdul to give up his Kalashnikov and three grenades?
So, in my book and considering the unique situation Israel is in, as long as it is not a ‘criminal gun’, it is ok in my book. If I was there I’d be 100% ok to risk prosecution after I save my family. It would actually be a PLEASURE.
I spend most of my time nowadays in my home country of Kenya (although the States is my spiritual home for many reasons), and I am licensed to carry here. This is a country that for various reasons (ranging from proximity to Somalia, a porous border with corrupt border security, support of the US and Israel, easy targets, Nairobi having buildings and malls that can be attacked, etc etc) we have had our fair share of attacks. When I go to a mall I am always packing. Some months back someone here had asked why anyone would need more than one magazine. I laughed at that since my typical loading is three magazines (including two 20-rounders).
Now, I am licensed. But I know for a fact that if I was not, I would still have something.
Why?
Terrorists don’t care, and hope is not a method.
I am certain that there are many (generally) law abiding Israeli citizens who will only put down their ‘illegal’ guns when terrorists lay down their weapons first.
Liberalism is a global threat. It makes people want to believe stories and not look at facts, and it’s surprising such nonsense is testing Israel. Especially when there are people still missing from that attack, and where every given moment something can happen. It’s not some old folks home in Connecticut!
“illegal weapons”? No such thing.
“Bennett is a lefty, a socialist idiot”
Guns are just the tip of the iceberg. Never again will I vote for him.
so 250,000 would be okay?
The horrific Hamas attack of October 7, 2023 would have turned out differently had those Israeli citizens been allowed access to firearms.
Just saying.
The bigger threat to Israel is its secular and pacifist left.
——————————-
There is that phrase that popped up after WWII.
I call them the Vichy Jews , after the Vichy government of WWII France that sold out its people to the Nazis and other Fascists.
They need to be put in their place,in the front lines in the battle against Islamofascism.
If I lived in Israel there is NO WAY I would not be armed - legal or illegal.
Everybody saw what happened to unarmed civilians on Oct 7.
You would think they had learned that lesson from their own Holy Scriptures.
1 Samuel 13:19-22
19 Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears:
***
22 So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.
Exactly
Armed Arabs=genocide
Armed Jews=peace
What does it take to obtain a concealed weapon permit in Kenya?
‘ticking time bomb’ for you and your upper crust maybe, but security for the people.
