While the future of reparations in California remains uncertain, state lawmakers are continuing to push forward with related legislation despite a lack of clear consensus on broad direct cash payouts.
Most recently, Assemblymember Isaac Bryan, D-Ladera Heights, introduced Assembly Bill 2599, known as the Truth in Disclosure Act. The bill would require major corporations doing business in California with annual worldwide gross receipts over $100 million to review their historical records and submit sworn affidavits disclosing any past ties to chattel slavery.

Or Muslim corporations and owners.................
I want families os Union soldiers who died in the American Civil War eligible for compensation. After all these Union soldiers played a big part in ending slavery and gave the ultimate sacrifice to defeat the Confederate States.
“”to review their historical records and submit sworn affidavits disclosing any past ties to chattel slavery.””
Right and just where do they suggest they look for such records? In their computers? Where do they get these people? Are there any nut houses left in CA - if not, they need to open one - start with that HUGE BEAUTIFUL BUILDING in Sacramento..you’ll find them all there. Just lock the doors! Cut off all communication with the civilized outside world.
Out of control government needs to be reined in.
I don’t recall California having a history as a cotton state. No slave plantations in its past at all. But I guess they see this as an opportunity to chase away more businesses and eventually reduce the number of Californians who have gainful employment.
None of the people working for the corporation today were working for it when the alleged slavery allegedly took place.
This is just a way to seize assets of businesses and to move one step closer to communism.
I lived in Sacramento in the late ‘50’s through ‘70’s..used to walk to work through this beautiful park in the ‘50’s...Camellias were gorgeous - HUGE....
Don’t think I worked for any slaveholders...
What about Egypt’s ties to the slave trade? After all, Abdullauseidermusdas el-Sayed is an african who is very proud of his Egyptian heritage.
Can we start there?
...like the Democrat Party’s ties to slavery...
California is the Land of Fruits, Nuts and Flakes...........and they all are in Sacramento.........
It should apply to the Democrat party. They can take out another mortgage on the DNC HQ to make all the payments
How many companies today, were even in existence prior to 1865? This seems so foolish.
They can do their obligatory “due diligence” and report that their company had no ties to slavery. So that should end the subject, of trying to get reparations from Corporate America.
Cal lawmakers vying to see who can virtue signal the loudest.
I can imagine the thinking might go like this:
Some Alabama buggy whip company that once upon a time had a few slaves, goes out of business in 1870.
Its assets are sold to a railroad supply company which goes out of business in 1920.
The railroad assets are sold to a radio company which goes out of business in 1960.
The radio assets are sold to a high tech company which goes out of business in 1980.
The tech company is bought by another tech company in 1990.
That tech company was purchased by Microsoft in 2005.
California has a few questions now for Microsoft about its past history of exploiting slave labor in the American South.
Insane, oppressive governments owe the citizenry reparations for past and future evil deeds.
Taxation is slavery. California owes reparations to everyone who paid taxes.
Then corporations will pass on any cost to you guessed it , Customers ,LOL
When do Democrats disclose the Democrat party’s ties to slavery?
“The bill would require major corporations doing business in California with annual worldwide gross receipts over $100 million to review their historical records and submit sworn affidavits disclosing any past ties to chattel slavery.”
The British compensated owners for emancipated slaves. The USA did not, and I don’t think they will now either. This bill is going nowhere.
